The San Diego Padres had this game in their hands — and let it slip away in the eighth inning. 

After leading twice (1-0 and 2-1), the Padres got strong pitching from Michael King (5 IP, 1 hit, 6 strikeouts) and Adrian Morejon (2 scoreless innings) but the offense missed some great chances (12 K's, 3-10 w/ RISP) bullpen couldn't hang on.. 

Offensively, Jackson Merrill led the way with two hits, a walk, and a run scored, while Ramon Laureano delivered a clutch RBI double to give San Diego the lead. 

But everything changed in the eighth inning. Jeremiah Estrada walked three straight hitters, and all three came around to score. The Tigers capitalized with timely hitting, scoring four runs in the inning to take control. Wandy Peralta couldn’t stop the damage, and the Padres bullpen collapse proved to be the difference. 

San Diego finished with 8 hits but only 2 runs, striking out 12 times and going 3-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
