    Holiday Special!

Karla Bulan is a 22 year old from Manila, Philippines. As a graduate in Economics from the University of the Philippines, she is currently working for a tech startup and volunteers her free time to contribute to The Noche Buena Project.

The Noche Buena Project is part of the Youth for the United World Philippines. The project began in 2009, when a group of volunteers felt the call to help in the relief effort for Typhoon Ondoy by gathering donations to help a small community in Quezon City that was affected by the flooding of the storm.

Since then, the project has been able to deliver over 10,000 Noche Buena packs, providing Christmas dinners and goods to different communities most in need around the Philippines. They’ve partnered with the community to give back to the community to donate not only relief goods, but also to lend out their hands to uplift those around them.

And in this episode we are going to learn more about her involvement in the Noche Buena Project. And then we will talk about how her experience in working for the Project has shaped her understanding of hope.

Christ-Alex Irambona: A Story of Water and Life
What if I told you that the closest source of clean water was 5 KM away and the only way to get there was by foot?

We head to Africa for the first time to the country of Burundi and talk with our friend Christ-Alex Irambona. Alex is 28 years old, he was born and raised in Burundi. He studied Civil Engineering at University of Burundi and he is a member of the international youth group called Youth For a United World who believe in a Universal Brotherhood. We asked him for his motto and he answered without hesitation "do to others what you want them to do for you.”

Alex was involved in an environmental project with this NGO called CASOBU in Burundi which focuses on contributing to the reduction of poverty in the country by doing sustainable development projects. Alex spent time in a rural area called Rukanda Hill in the province of Bururi to bring clean water to this community where the closest source of clean water is 5 KM away and not easy to access. So, we will have Alex talk about his time in Rukanda Hill with CASOBU and this clean water project, and then we will discuss letting go of our self-interests to help others which led him to find a family in this rural community that not only changed their lives, but also his life!
