This week is national accessibility week and in this episode, Rafia discusses with Ruwaida her journey in memorizing the Quran. The barriers she faced and strategies to make Islamic education inclusive for people with disabilities.
We talk about the introduction of the Braille Qur'an and how it helped her on her journey. Ruwaida is also a Quran reciter featured on the Qariah app. She is a wife and a mother. Ruwaida is currently pursuing a career in community and justice services. Ruwaida inspires others to memorize the Quran to increase their blessings in the hereafter.

In our society today, fashion plays a huge role in how others may view you. What you wear and how you present yourself play a part in how the world perceives you, and as people with disabilities, it’s important to break the assumptions people may have on their first impressions. Topics of Hijab styling, dressing in colours and styles that affect and stimulate moods, especially those with mental illness and disabilities, as well as dressing appropriately for our comfort and respectability are discussed. What do you know about individuals with disabilities? Are we all the same, do we have all the same experiences? In today’s podcast, we will be discussing the topic of acquiring disabilities through the war as we commemorate the soldiers who have lost and who have fought for us. War devastates many parts of our society and can leave many individuals with a disability. As 3 #MuslimWomen with disabilities, we discussed our experience with disability and how this may be different for those who acquire a disability because of horrible things like war.

In this episode, we discuss the appropriation of Muslims and individuals with disabilities during Halloween. These costumes end up being evil or scary characters, negatively highlighting these two groups. We share our experiences dealing with negative stereotypes put upon us and how to eradicate these wrongful assumptions.
In this episode, we continue the conversation about #IslamicHistoryMonthCanada and #IslamicHeritageMonth. As Canadians and #MuslimWomen we take pride in this month. Often Muslims with disabilities get left out of the stories told about Islamic contributions to society. To make sure this doesn’t happen anymore, in this episode we talk about the legacy of Muslims with disabilities. We want to educate others about the #IslamandDisability so those that came before us can be recognized and celebrated.
This episode highlights the importance of #IslamicHistoryMonthCanada and #IslamicHeritageMonth recognized in Ontario. Islamic contributions to society should be celebrated, and so we used our platform to proclaim the positive influence Muslim individuals have on our world. As 3 #MuslimWomen with disabilities we are making history as well, and contributing to advances in accessibility. We hope one day these efforts are recognized and celebrated.
