This week’s Money Diary is from a 31-year-old nurse who fell pregnant at 30… while single and working 70-hour weeks.
At the time, money wasn’t the problem. She was earning well, picking up shifts, saying yes to everything and just getting on with life. But there wasn’t much structure behind it. It was busy, but not necessarily intentional.
And then everything shifted.
Not because she didn’t have enough, but because she suddenly had a reason to think about money differently. To slow down, to plan, and to actually build something that could support her and her child.
This episode isn’t about starting from scratch. It’s about taking what you already have and learning how to use it properly. It’s about stepping into a new version of your life, ready or not, and figuring it out as you go.
It’s honest, it’s a little bit messy, and it’s a really powerful reminder that you don’t need everything perfectly mapped out to make it work.
Sometimes it’s not about earning more. It’s about getting intentional with what you’ve already got.

This week’s Friday Drinks starts off fun… and ends in absolute chaos. Because what do you do when you get headhunted and try to negotiate your salary, only for it to completely backfire? Job offer gone. Pay rise denied. And now you’re stuck wondering if being honest at work just worked against you. We definitely had some opinions.
As always, we also unpack a DM from someone in our community who found themselves in exactly that situation, and it opens up a bigger conversation about loyalty, transparency, and knowing your worth. Because in theory, you did everything ‘right’ but the outcome says otherwise.
Before we spiral (in a productive way), we also get into a Money Dilemma that feels very relatable if you’ve ever dipped your toe into investing. What happens when you realise you might be doubling up on ETFs? Same underlying investments, different funds, and suddenly you’re questioning everything. We break down what’s actually going on there, what “hedged” really means, and whether this is something you need to fix or just part of the learning curve.
There’s also the usual Friday Drinks chaos. Jess shares Money Wins that prove the small things really do add up, Bec’s got Broke Tips that are equal parts clever and questionable, and a conversation about what we’d all do if money genuinely didn’t matter, which tells you more about us than it probably should.
If you’ve ever second-guessed a money decision, questioned your job, or wondered if you played something wrong, this one’s going to feel all too familiar.

If you’ve been feeling like you need to make a bit more money right now… this episode is for you.
This week, Jess and Bec are getting nosy (in the best way) and diving into the real side hustles our community is using to bring in extra cash. And not the usual “fill out surveys” kind of advice… actual, clever ideas that are working.
From people turning small ideas into proper income streams, to flexible gigs you can start on the side of your 9–5, this episode is full of inspiration if you’re trying to get ahead or just want a little more breathing room in your budget.
Some of these are surprisingly simple. Some are a bit more creative. All of them will make you think, “okay… I could actually do that.”
If you’ve ever said “I should probably get a side hustle” but didn’t know where to start… this is a very good place to begin.

What actually happens when you start investing… and just figure it out as you go?
In this week’s Investing Diary, we’re chatting to a Money Bee who has been on a full journey over the last four years. Blue chip stocks, trying to time the market, accidentally buying multiple ETFs that all hold the same companies… nothing has been off limits.
It’s the kind of story that will make you feel a lot better about your own investing decisions.
We talk about what it looked like starting out with a $10,000 head start, how confidence can quickly turn into “I can outsmart the market” energy, and the moment you realise your strategy might not be as solid as you thought.
There’s also a really real conversation about ETFs and diversification, especially when you think you’re spreading your investments… but you’re actually doubling up without realising. Plus, we get into the emotional side of investing, like watching your portfolio move up and down, and how to stay consistent when everything feels a bit chaotic.
We also cover the practical side of things, including choosing an investing platform, the differences between CMC and Sharesies, and why automating your investments can be the thing that keeps you on track long term.
This episode is relatable, a little bit chaotic, and genuinely helpful. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “doing investing right” or felt unsure about your strategy, you’re going to see yourself in this one.

This week’s Friday Drinks is a little bit rogue… and we’re not mad about it.
We’re diving into a money dilemma from someone earning a very impressive income… but feeling completely burnt out, overwhelmed, and stuck. Think multiple mortgages, a business, big financial commitments, and the very real question of “how do I change my life when everything depends on this income?”
It’s a conversation about burnout, lifestyle creep, financial pressure, and what happens when your income grows… but so do your responsibilities.
We also get into a DM that has us asking: is a gift really a gift if it costs you money to use it?
Because while a surprise trip sounds generous in theory… it hits a little differently when you’re the one footing the bill for flights, food and everything in between.
Plus, as always, we’re sharing your community money wins (including a very satisfying warranty moment and a first-time investor win), and broke tips that are equal parts clever and chaotic.
If you’ve ever felt stretched too thin, financially committed to the point of stress, or quietly annoyed at a “gift” that wasn’t really a gift… this one’s going to hit.

If you’ve opened your phone this week and seen headlines about billions or even trillions being “wiped” from the share market… this episode is for you.
Because yes, it sounds dramatic. And yes, it can feel a little bit scary. But also… it’s not exactly what you think is happening.
In this week’s Deep Dive, we’re unpacking what’s actually going on when the market drops, why the news makes it sound so much worse than it is, and what you should be thinking about instead of panic selling everything and calling it a day.
We talk about why the share market is basically just one big emotional girl, how global events like interest rates and oil prices flow through to your portfolio, and why uncertainty makes investors act a little bit unhinged. There’s also a really important distinction between a market “correction” and a full blown crash… because they are not the same thing, no matter what the headlines are telling you.
We also get into the part that actually matters. What do you do when your portfolio is down? Why selling in a panic can leave you worse off, and how long term investors think about moments like this instead.
This is the episode you need if you’ve ever opened your investing app, seen red, and immediately questioned every decision you’ve ever made.

What happens when you hit rock bottom with money… and decide to completely turn your life around?
In this week’s Money Diary, we meet a She’s on the Money community member who left home at just 16, became a young single mum, and found herself living below the poverty line with no financial literacy, mounting debt and her power literally being cut off.
Fast forward to today… she’s built a career in banking, earns $95,000 a year, owns her home, has repaired her credit score and is now investing for her future.
This is a story about resilience, rebuilding and what it really looks like to go from financial chaos to financial confidence.
Plus, we talk budgeting, credit cards, investing strategies and how to take control of your money even when you feel completely overwhelmed.
If you’ve ever felt behind, ashamed of your money situation, or unsure where to start… this episode will remind you that it’s never too late to turn things around.

It’s a Jess and Bec takeover this week (while V is still on mat leave… but don’t worry, she’s back very soon 👀).
We kick things off with Jess sharing her money wins, because we love a little financial main character energy to start the episode.
Then we get into a dilemma that feels a bit too real. What do you do when a debt has snowballed way beyond what you originally owed… and is there actually a way to negotiate it down? We unpack what your options might look like, what’s realistic, and where to even start.
And then a DM slid into our inbox that had us thinking about the long game. What’s the best way to set your kids up financially? We chat through the different approaches, what actually makes a difference, and how to balance giving your kids a leg up without overcomplicating it.
Plus, we read out one of your five-star reviews (which we are obsessed with, by the way). If you’ve been loving the show, you can leave us a review on Apple Podcasts or drop your thoughts on Spotify, we genuinely read them all and love sharing them with the community.
As always, it’s a little bit chaotic, very real, and full of the money conversations we should probably be having more often.

If you’ve ever looked at your bank account after booking a holiday and thought… “well, that was financially irresponsible” — this episode is for you.
In this week’s Deep Dive, we’re talking all things travel and money. Because yes, you absolutely deserve to see the world… but ideally without coming home to financial chaos.
We’re breaking down the smartest (and slightly underrated) ways to save money on travel without sacrificing the experience. Think less “skip the holiday” and more “travel smarter, not poorer.”
We chat:
Because travel isn’t a bad money goal. In fact, research shows spending on experiences actually makes us happier. But going into debt for it? Not the vibe.
This episode is your permission slip to book the trip… and your game plan to do it in a way your future self will thank you for.

If you think being made redundant would completely derail your finances… this week’s Money Diary might change your mind.
Our diarist is a 32-year-old mum of two who’s worked hard since childhood, built a strong corporate career… and then had her world flipped upside down. A serious injury, two redundancies in one year, and some very big financial decisions, all happening at once.
But instead of playing it safe, she did something else.
She backed herself.
From launching a brand-new business (that’s already turning a profit), to buying a $400k property with 100 acres and a creek running through it, this is a story about resilience, strategy and redefining what financial success actually looks like.
We chat:
This episode is equal parts practical and inspiring, and a reminder that sometimes the thing that feels like a setback… is actually the start of something much bigger.
If you’ve ever wondered “could I actually do something different?”… this one’s for you.

V is back in the studio (and yes… she brought Cami along for a very cute cam(i?)o because apparently she couldn’t stay away). If you hear any cute baby noises throughout the episode, this time it isn't Bec!
This week we’re getting into two questions that feel very “this could go really well… or really not.”
First up, a dilemma we know so many of you are quietly thinking about. Should you ever sell your shares to fund a house deposit? We break down when it might make sense, what you’re potentially giving up, and how to think about the trade-off between investing and getting into the property market.
Then, a DM from the community that had us all leaning in. Is buying an investment property with family a smart financial move… or a disaster waiting to happen?
We’re talking boundaries, expectations, legal structures and what can go wrong (because let’s be honest, money and family can get complicated very quickly).
It’s practical, a little bit spicy, and exactly the kind of conversation you want to have before you make a big financial decision.
