DawgmanRadio is a comprehensive look at the latest Washington Huskies football, basketball, and recruiting news, with insight and analysis from Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - were inside Husky Stadium for Day Three of Washington Spring Football, and everything was going along great until an injury unfortunately cut short practice.
Running back Jordan Washington was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons. As of the posting of this story he's conscious and moving all of his extremities.
Based on the history of how UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch likes to run his Saturday practices, they were just getting into a long team scrimmage period that probably would have gone at least 50-60 plays.
But even in the short amount of scrimmaging that we saw in the first day with full pads, we still saw plenty to talk about.
The guys go through each position grouping and give their thoughts on what they saw. For instance, today was the first day quarterback Elijah Brown was given the keys as UW's backup behind Demond Williams. He's been going back and forth in a battle with Kini McMillan for that spot.
They talk about what they saw from Brown, the freshmen that are making moves, the transfers that are already showing up and making plays, and more in this roughly 40-minute practice recap.

The Washington Huskies were 21st in total defense and 15th in scoring defense last season. Could they be even better in 2026?
There sure seems to be a lot of reasons to think so, starting right at the top with defensive coordinator Ryan Walters.
The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together after day two of UW's spring football campaign, held Thursday afternoon in mixed conditions on the east field next to Husky Stadium, and hashed out all the good, bad, and ugly that they saw during the 150-minute practice. And the intermittent, spitting wind and rain didn't help things for the offense.
The good on that side of the ball came mostly from the receivers and tight ends, led by Rashid Williams, Chris Lawson, and Decker DeGraaf. It was a mixed day for quarterback Demond Williams and a less than stellar day for the centers, as Jake Flores and Parker Cross were deputized during the final team period due to the Hatchett brothers being unavailable at that time.
But most of the talk was about the defense. From the big, stout defensive front to the experienced linebacking crew and a defensive backs room filled with youth and athleticism, there was a lot to talk about.
It all started with a conversation about Walters, who spoke with the media after Thursday's practice. He talked about his level of comfort being at UW and in Seattle, how it has worked out tremendously for his family. And as he said, when you're comfortable, you can maximize your potential.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together after Washington's first practice of spring and gave their off-the-cuff initial impressions of what they saw during the 150-minute practice Tuesday afternoon on the east field next to Husky Stadium.
The first day of spring is always a kind of 'get to know you' practice, especially for the first-year guys and new transfers. It can also be that way for new coaches, like new offensive assistant coach Matt Cavanaugh.
The guys went through basically every position group to give their general thoughts, as well as more specific commentary on those players that physically stood out. One thing that rang true after seeing the team on the hoof: Jedd Fisch is realizing his vision of getting bigger, especially along the lines.
It was hard not to be impressed with the overall group of true freshmen that were on hand to practice, starting with OL Kodi Greene and DL Derek Colman-Brusa. Even some of the receivers, like Jordan Clay, and the defensive backs like Jeron Jones and Elijah Durr, were hard to ignore.
The guys also talked about the format of practice, how it was geared more to get the guys going with their fundamentals and position-specific drills.

Due to positive feedback, the guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - decided to do another audio mailbag, and this one mostly dealt with what we expect to see during spring football.
But it started with bigger picture questions, like donor fatigue in the NIL age, Pat Chun's relationships with Jedd Fisch and Danny Sprinkle, as well as Fisch's long-term prospects as Washington's head coach compared to moving on.
After a quick break, the talk turned more into the players and coaches we are excited to see as Spring Football is set to begin this coming Tuesday. Who are our choices for breakout stars? Which freshmen do we think stand the best chance at making an impact in 2026?
Hopefully more questions will be answered as we work through next week and see the team in person.
Oh, and we were also asked about Washington's chances at making the College Football Playoff this coming fall.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together this morning to answer some member-submitted questions and then Chris and Scott answered Kim's questions about former interns, players, and coaches.
Some of the questions that were asked:
How have UW done in the offseason replacing Denzel Boston...
The 10 best current players on the UW roster...
Top in-state recruits for the next few years...
Opinions on current AD Pat Chun...
Best guesses on true freshman that won't redshirt...
Jedd Fisch's next coaching destination...
A breakdown of 2026's defensive line and EDGE group...
And then Kim got to ask some of his most-pressing questions about former coaches and players the guys loved to talk to and would want to have a beer or drink with, as well as favorite interns and a lot more.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - broke down Washington's portal business now that the end day to enter the transfer portal has come and gone (January 16).
Scott did a fantastic job of breaking down how Washington approached this portal cycle, their process, positions of need identified, and how well they achieved balance in those positions in his latest recruiting blog.
To start, Scott added some context to his blog thoughts and they talked about any UW players entering the portal Scott was surprised about. And there were a few.
After a quick break, the guys talk about any other portal entries that may have seen the 'writing on the wall' and used that as their rationale for entering the portal.
To finish out, the guys talk about the 9 portal signings that Jedd Fisch already spoke on this past week, and how well they addressed need.
And could the Huskies actually sign more high school players for the 2026 recruiting class? The start date for the regular 2026 prep signing window starts on Wednesday, February 4.

The guys from Dawgman.com - Kim Grinolds, Chris Fetters, and Scott Eklund - got together shortly after Demond Williams announced his return to Washington, followed closely by public statements made by UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch and UW AD Pat Chun.
They go through the statements, give their initial thoughts on not just the statements but the last 48 hours, and what they think will happen now.
Did Demond simply 'see the light' after conversations with Fisch and others, or was it a case of finding out he wasn't nearly as attractive a transfer candidate based on the toxic nature of how events unfolded? And in the end, does any of that matter?
And is this a situation where, because Williams simply returned where he came from, everything is good and things go back to status quo? Or will this story end up being a test case to catalyze serious change to the way contracts are drafted and enforced?
The guys hash all that out and give their final thoughts on what this means for UW going forward, not just as a program, but also specifically at quarterback because they are still in a situation where they could use another experienced quarterback to back Williams up like Kai Horton did last season.

No question about it; the news of UW quarterback Demond Williams Jr to the transfer portal hit the college football world like a ton of bricks. It was unexpected and it will have ripple effects not just for Washington, but the college football world moving forward. We haven't seen it often, but it's going to happen more and more
That sounds a bit hyperbolic, but that's how the Dawgman guys - Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund - see it. After getting their initial thoughts out on the news, how unexpected it was and the reaction not just from them but from sources in and around the UW program, they talk about next steps and what this means not just for Williams, but for UW Head Coach Jedd Fisch.
Whether you thought the careers of Williams and Fisch were tied together for the 2026 season, you were likely wrong. With Black Monday creating a lot of NFL Head Coaching opportunities, does that mean Fisch will now be looking to leave UW too? Or does it mean Fisch now has the ability to attract another high-level quarterback, someone with the same potential as Williams?
And with ESPN's Pete Thamel reporting UW will use every available remedy to make sure Williams abides by the contract he just signed days ago, how can Demond ever come back to Montlake now? It sounds like the Big Ten Conference is getting involved too. On the outside, it feels like bridges are being burned by the hour.
And lastly, what does this mean for UW now that they have a quarterback opening on their roster? Will the QB transfer dominoes reset? With this news, will other quarterbacks start looking seriously at Washington as a destination? And who could those quarterbacks be?
Take everything said on the podcast with a grain of salt; this story is still very warm and continues to develop sidebars. It could very well be that some of the information talked about has already changed in a matter of hours. It's just beginning, so it's hard not to jump to some assumptions or conclusions based on the cursory evidence out there in the public eye.
