In June of 1864, Union General William Tecumseh Sherman made a rare and devastating decision: a direct assault on the Confederate defenses atop Kennesaw Mountain. In just a matter of hours, thousands of soldiers were killed on the steep Georgia hillside, leaving behind trenches filled with corpses, makeshift hospitals overflowing with amputations, and scars on the landscape that remain visible even today.

More than 160 years later, visitors still report hearing phantom cannon fire echoing through the trees, seeing Civil War soldiers disappear into the forest, and experiencing an overwhelming sense of dread along the infamous Dead Angle.

Then, we venture into stranger territory, examining connections to Japanese legends of heavenly stone boats, the mysterious Utsuro-bune encounter, and ancient astronaut speculation. We even interviewed a tourist, Eddie, who hiked to the megalith and saw it firsthand! Welcome to Episode 263: The Ozark Spooklight. Near the Oklahoma-Missouri border, there is a stretch of approximately 4 miles of isolated countryside known as the Devil’s Promenade. Within the Devil’s Promenade, there are sightings of shadow people, witches, spirits masquerading as animals, and creepy rundown houses hiding the smell of decay. At the end of East 50 Road in the Devil’s Promenade, a paranormal light phenomenon can be seen dancing and playing, as if it is alive. Some say the light has been there since at least the 1800s, others swear they didn’t start seeing it until the 1920s. While its origins remain unclear, the light became so famous that over time it turned into a teenage right of passage: take your date to “Spook Light Road” for a chance to be chased by something supernatural. The strangest part of all? You can still go see it there today between the hours of 10pm and 12am. On today’s episode of Let’s Get Haunted, we’ll be unravelling the history and mystery of the Ozark Spooklight, reading firsthand witness accounts, and theorizing what exactly the fiery orange orb might really be. Welcome to Episode 262: Pregnancy Folklore & Superstitions Around The World! Across history, pregnancy was treated less like a medical condition and more like a supernatural vulnerability. The old beliefs of Appalachia insist that laboring women shouldn’t look outside at night, seek their reflection in a mirror, speak certain names, or even leave clothes hanging outside… because “things” could follow them home after birth.

In parts of Eastern Europe, women were considered spiritually “open” after birth. Demons or witches could enter newly opened bodies. Iron and scissors were placed under beds for protection from the evil eye. Jewish postpartum beliefs included hanging amulets near laboring mothers to ward off Lilith from entering through windows at night to steal infants from mothers. 

Across Scandinavian and Celtic folklore, changelings were of major concern. The fae could steal newborns and replace them with sickly copies.  Across the globe, pregnant women were thought to exist in a dangerous liminal state between worlds. Some cultures treated birth as a demonic vulnerability. Others treated it as a profound spiritual power.

A woman in labor was believed to stand between worlds.
