It's a bit of a quiet week here at Breakfast All Day as "Project Hail Mary" continues to dominate the post-Oscar box office and Alonso is traveling.
But! We have reviews of a couple of movies that we don't agree on, and they both happen to be horror comedies:
THEY WILL KILL YOU. Zazie Beetz takes on a high-rise full of wealthy Satan worshippers who ... want to kill her. That may sound a lot like last week's "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come," but it's got its own crazy, hyper-stylized action. Think of it as "John Wick" by way of Looney Tunes. In theaters.
FORBIDDEN FRUITS. Lili Reinhart stars as the queen bee at the hottest clothing store, with co-workers who follow her around and obey her every rule. And they all happen to be named for fruits. But a new employee threatens to undermine her dominance. Think of it as "Mean Girls" in a Dallas mall. In theaters.
Thanks to all the great folks who joined us at the Gardena Cinema last weekend for "After Hours"! We'll plan another in-person event soon.

It's quiet lately as we recover from the Oscars here at Breakfast All Day.
We reviewed the week's big, new movie, "Project Hail Mary" in an earlier episode. And we didn't do our usual Friday livestream because of some schedule juggling.
BUT! We did review "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come," the sequel to the 2019 horror comedy hit "Ready or Not." Can you believe there are more Satan-worshipping billionaires trying to kill Samara Weaving? That's in theaters this weekend.
And we touched on a few news items off the top, including the big box office opening for "Project Hail Mary," new trailers in the "Spider-Man" and "Dune" franchises (it's Zendaya Day!), and a few thoughts on the passing of Chuck Norris. Thanks for joining us.

There was so much to talk about at this year's Oscars that we wanted to come back the next day for more. This is the audio of the Monday morning reactions livestream we did on our Breakfast All Day YouTube channel. How accurately did you pick the winners? Did you have "One Battle After Another" or "Sinners" for best picture? And what did you think of the speeches, the gowns, and Conan's wacky sketches? (We did enjoy his Aunt Gladys opening.)
Thanks so much for spending awards season with us and sharing your insights!
And if you'd like to see us in person, we're showing 1985's "After Hours" at the Gardena Cinema this weekend. Join us on Saturday, March 21. Doors open at 6pm, we'll be there to hang out in the lobby, then the movie starts at 7pm. If you've never seen this weird-ass Scorsese movie projected, this is a great opportunity. Tickets are available here. Support your local arthouse theater!
We're taking it easy as we head into this busy Oscar weekend at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed in our latest episode:
A few things to put on your calendar:
Join us Sunday for our LIVE Oscar Watch Party! We'll be at our channel starting at 330pm Pacific and we'll be hanging out for the whole show. This is always so much fun every year, so come and share your thoughts.
Then come back Monday morning for our Oscars Reaction Live Chat! In case you can't make it Sunday night, or you just want to go over everything that happened, we'll be back at our channel at 9am Pacific.
And on Saturday, March 21, we're showing "After Hours" at the Gardena Cinema. If you've never seen this Martin Scorsese comedy classic and you're in the LA area, this is a great opportunity. Doors open at 6pm, we'll be there for a little meet and greet, and then the film will start at 7. Tickets are available here. Support your local arthouse theater!
It's one of our favorite days during awards season: when our great friend Glenn Whipp of the Los Angeles Times joins us to help out with Oscar picks. Glenn covers awards races year-round, and always has lots of insider insight. The three of us don't agree on everything -- we're split on best picture, for example -- but other categories like best actress seem pretty clear at this point. What do you hope to see win? What do you think will win? And are those the same thing?
Here's a link to a downloadable, printable ballot. Bring it with you on Sunday night, when we'll be doing out annual Oscar livestream. We'll be at our Breakfast All Day YouTube channel starting at 330pm Pacific time on Sunday, March 15, and the ceremony begins at 4. Link to that coming soon. And whether or not you can make it on Sunday night, we're also doing a reaction livestream at 9am Pacific time on Monday. We look forward to seeing you and hearing your thoughts!
It's an absolutely packed episode a week away from the Oscars. We're playing some catch-up with nominees and we've got one monster of a new release. Here's what we have for you:
THE BRIDE! That exclamation point says it all. Writer-director Maggie Gyllenhaal's wild and bold update of "The Bride of Frankenstein" mixes tones and genres in a way that's dividing critics (including us). Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale co-star. In theaters.
THE VOICE OF HIND RAJAB. The last of the five nominees in the best international feature category for us to discuss here. Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania mixes the real-life audio of a 5-year-old Palestinian trapped in a car in Gaza with actors playing the emergency operators on the other end of the line. We don't agree on this film, either, but it has moved many audiences deeply. Available for online rental.
THE PERFECT NEIGHBOR. Nominated for best documentary feature, this Netflix film is composed entirely of deputies' body cam footage of a neighborhood where a deadly shooting ripped the multicultural community apart. We think this is the front-runner for the Academy Award, if only because it's probably the one most people saw (plus, it's great). Streaming now.
MR. NOBODY AGAINST PUTIN. Russian school teacher Pavel Talankin bravely documents Putin's propagandist efforts to indoctrinate young minds at the start of the Ukraine invasion. You come to really care about him and the kids in his care, particularly the teens who are facing an uncertain future. This is also up for the best documentary feature Oscar. Available for online rental.
MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Another busy week between early reactions to "The Bride!", HBO Max and Paramount + merging into one streaming platform, Daryl Hannah's op-ed about how she's portrayed in Ryan Murphy's "Love Story," the "Little House on the Prairie" reboot, and Catherine O'Hara's posthumous Actor Award. Join us here on Fridays at Noon Pacific.
Thanks for being here! Make sure to join us Tuesday at Noon Pacific for our Oscar predictions livestream with Glenn Whipp from the LA Times: https://youtube.com/live/PTrb9bx-d4E?feature=share
The end of February is a cinematic wasteland -- you're better off catching up with Oscar nominees -- but if you'd like to see a new movie, we've got you covered here at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed on our latest episode.
Thanks for being here! Have a great weekend.

We're taking care of business here at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed for you on our latest episode:
EPiC: ELVIS PRESLEY IN CONCERT. Baz Luhrmann digs through the archives to find 59 hours of never-before-seen footage from Elvis Presley's Las Vegas run. The results are thrilling. Whether or not you're a massive Elvis fan, you'll come away with an appreciation for his singular showmanship: They don't call him The King for nothing. Playing exclusively in IMAX for the next week (which is really how you should see it) before opening on more screens Feb. 27.
NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE. So many of our viewers asked us to review this, and we're so glad we did. The cult-favorite Canadian web series is now a full-length feature film. Longtime friends and collaborators Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol are still scheming to book a gig at the Rivoli in Toronto. You don't need to know a single thing about this show to enjoy this energetic time-travel comedy. In theaters.
MOVIE NEWS LIVE! Lots to discuss as always, including the deaths of Robert Duvall, Frederick Wiseman and Eric Dane. Plus: Stephen Colbert standing up to CBS, and the trailer for "The Mandalorian and Grogu." Join us every Friday at Noon Pacific.
Thanks for being here, and have a great weekend!

Nice to see you on this mid-week pop-in here at Breakfast All Day. Here's what we've got for you on our latest episode:
HOW TO MAKE A KILLING. Glen Powell leads an all-star cast in this dark comedy from writer-director John Patton Ford ("Emily the Criminal"). He plays the son of a disowned heiress who schemes to kill all the family members ahead of him in line for a billion-dollar fortune. Margaret Qualley, Bill Camp, Jessica Henwick and Ed Harris co-star. In theaters Friday.
LITTLE AMÉLIE OR THE CHARACTER OF RAIN. This gorgeous film is up for the Oscar for best animated feature, and it's already won that award from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. We see the world through the eyes of a 3-year-old Belgian girl living with her family in Japan. The colors and details are wondrous. Available for rental.
REMEMBERING ROBERT DUVALL. We lost another legend this week with the passing of Robert Duvall at age 95. It's impossible to sum up all that he contributed to film and television, but we try in our tribute here. What is your favorite Duvall performance? Let us know.
Thanks for joining us. We'll be back on Friday with Movie News LIVE! and more reviews.
Life is like a jam-packed, extremely random box of chocolates on this week's episode of Breakfast All Day. Here's what we reviewed:
WUTHERING HEIGHTS. Emerald Fennell's 14-year-old-girl fanfic version of the classic Emily Brontë novel is high on style but low on substance. Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are a gorgeous Heathcliff and Cathy, but there's not much tension between them. See it for the dresses, though. In theaters.
GOOD LUCK, HAVE FUN, DON'T DIE. An inspired title for a blast of a movie. Gore Verbinski's time-travel action comedy is zany, but it also has something serious to say about our reliance on technology. (Podcasts are OK, though.) Sam Rockwell, Haley Lu Richardson, Juno Temple, Zazie Beets and Michael Peña star. In theaters.
CRIME 101. A well-crafted, well-acted LA noir in the spirit of "Heat." Chris Hemsworth stars as a jewel thief hitting targets along the 101 freeway. Mark Ruffalo is the police detective on his tail. Halle Berry is an insurance broker who gets caught up in his scheme. One of us liked this a lot more than the other. In theaters.
MOVIE NEWS LIVE. Two weeks in a row! We're getting back to normal. Among the topics we discussed were the Spirit Awards this weekend, performers leaving Casey Wasserman's talent management company, the Winter Olympics, and the deaths of James Van Der Beek and Bud Cort. Join us at our YouTube channel Fridays at Noon Pacific.
Enjoy yourself this Valentine's Day weekend! Thanks for sharing some of it with us.
