Episode 156 - Build Strength, Balance, and Flexibility with Man Flow Yoga’s Dean Pohlman

Many men think yoga is primarily for women because most participants are female, and classes often cater to women's needs. My guest, Dean Pohlman, explains that men and women have different flexibility requirements, making traditional yoga more challenging for men. However, yoga has evolved to include elements like British gymnastics, making it more accessible for everyone.

Dean, founder of Man Flow Yoga, shares his journey into men’s yoga and how it transformed his approach to fitness by improving his flexibility, core strength, and body awareness. He addresses other common misconceptions, such as yoga for men being too spiritual or not physically challenging enough.

Dean explains how men’s yoga workouts can be adapted to meet their specific physical needs, with a focus on balance, posture, and injury prevention yoga. He emphasizes the lifelong benefits of yoga, not only for increasing strength and flexibility but also for overall well-being, particularly for men over 40.

You'll learn how morning yoga flow can relieve common issues like lower back pain, knee pain, and shoulder stiffness. Dean also highlights how strength-focused yoga helps build core and hip strength to reduce strain on overworked joints.

Episode 152 - Understanding Fat Burning vs. Fat Loss – The Real Path to Losing Belly Fat for Men Over 40
Are you stuck in the fat-burning zone but still not seeing results? Many people think burning fat during exercise equals fat loss, but the truth is more complex.

In today’s episode, we’ll discuss the difference between fat burning and fat loss—and why understanding this can transform your fitness journey. We’ll debunk the common myth that staying in a low-intensity "fat-burning zone" is the best way to lose fat. You’ll understand why your body burning fat doesn’t necessarily translate into fat loss.

We’ll also discuss how your body uses calories for energy, how to track your caloric intake and burn, and the importance of quality nutrition in maintaining a calorie deficit. I also highlight the dangers of restrictive diets and share efficient ways to burn calories throughout the day.

I address the widespread myth of targeting belly fat and offer a comprehensive fat-loss approach, combined with regular monitoring of body composition and overall progress, which is far more effective than belly fat exercises.

So, whether you’re struggling with stubborn belly fat or looking to kickstart your fat-loss journey, this episode is packed with actionable insights that will help you create a sustainable daily routine for lasting fat loss. Tune in to learn how to optimize your workouts, nutrition, and lifestyle for better results.

Episode 150 - Understanding, Managing, and Reversing Diabetes for Men Over 40
In 2021, over 38 million Americans (11.6% of the population) had diabetes, mostly type 2, while 97.6 million adults had prediabetes, a precursor to type 2 diabetes. Although millions of new cases are diagnosed yearly, particularly in those over 45, the condition is often reversible with lifestyle changes.

In today’s episode, we’ll talk about the severe health risks associated with untreated diabetes and the need not only to understand and manage diabetes but also to take proactive steps to reverse it by adopting healthier habits. I’ll share my journey of helping my father control the condition, which has led to significant improvements in blood sugar levels.

Additionally, we’ll discuss three common dietary mistakes many people with diabetes make and the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, proper nutrition, stress management, and sufficient sleep, in controlling blood sugar levels.

If you or someone you know is dealing with type 2 diabetes, listen to the episode and check out our diabetes program to learn how you can potentially reverse diabetes rather than just manage it.

Episode 149 - Top 7 Best Foods To Fight Prostate Cancer
The Lancet Commission on Prostate Cancer projects that annual global cases will double from 1.4 million in 2020 to 2.9 million by 2040. Additionally, annual deaths from prostate cancer are projected to increase by 85%—from 375,000 in 2020 to nearly 700,000 by 2040.

These statistics are part of the reason why I did a coaching call in the Over 40 Alpha Brotherhood specifically addressing prostate cancer. Today's podcast episode is based on that coaching call. I’ll share my experience and the reasons for getting a PSA test.

We’ll talk about the importance of early detection, regular PSA testing, and how to interpret PSA levels. I’ll also introduce you to the Prostate Power Program, which I co-developed with fitness icon Clark Bartram to help men navigate prostate health challenges.

In addition, I mention seven foods beneficial for prostate health and tips for incorporating these foods into your daily diet.

Given the inevitable global surge in prostate cancer for men in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, you need to check your prostate health now. Listen to the episode to learn how to implement proactive measures and reduce your risk of prostate cancer.
