Welcome To Talk To The Masses, a megaphone for the millennial opinion to be discussed in-depth, and often, with plenty of banter.
In this episode of Cool Story Bro, we have long time friend of Masses, Hans Abdullah on the pod. Hans is a sneaker collector, entrepreneur, co-founder of Made Curate and also a youtuber! He only started making videos last July during MCO and he now has more than five thousand subscribers in less than a year. His skits are really fun to watch, so do check out his channel in the link below! In this episode, Yim and Hans explored all sorts of randomness in conversation. From whether or not they will punch a ghost if they encounter one to teleporting themselves to different countries via the green screen. Tune in to the latest episode now and share your thoughts with us in the comment section below! Also, the podcast is currently looking for sponsorship opportunities and if you're a brand that is interested do email us at [email protected].
In this episode of Cool Story Bro, I caught up with Noh Salleh who is no stranger when it comes to Malaysia's music scene. Noh Salleh is a Malaysian singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is best known as the frontman and principal songwriter of the rock band Hujan, with whom they have released six studio albums. He is also an entrepreneur and founder of Hikari Riders. In this episode, we talked about the problems Syria is facing, mental health, music, his thoughts on education and more! Huge thanks to Noh for coming on.
In this episode of Cool Story Bro, there is no guest per say but I will be talking about recent controversial issues that happened recently in Malaysia. First being Haoren, who is a Youtuber/Influencer who recently released an offensive 'brownface' music video to promote a skin whitening drink. Also I found out that his apology video is monetised :) Secondly, I talked about a Malaysian lady who did something really questionable and last but not least I called Bryan Botak Chin to discuss about his recent drama with Streetwear Busta. In a nutshell, today's episode is all about tea.
Due to the recent lockdown we are now back working from home and in this week's episode, I caught up with Shawn from Againstlab who also happen to be my housemate hence why we are in the living room together. Shawn is no stranger when it comes to the streetwear culture in Malaysia. Aside from fashion he is also a content creator. Do check out his Youtube page @Shawnduabui. We talked about his recent drop (The Art of Breaking Free) which is available for purchase now at www.againstlab.com and halfway through the show we called Benjamin Teoh who was once a part of Masses to join us as we discussed some recent local tea which includes the very much talked about interview of Nala Design by South China Morning Post and more! Unfortunately there is no video of Ben as my Iphone decided to not save the facetime recording. Thanks for watching and please like, share and subscribe.
Just in case you all don't understand what tea is:
Tea (noun) UrbanDictionary: The best kind of gossip, typically shared between friends. It's a bonding tool for people of all ages. Tea is usually about someone you know, but can also extend to celebrities random internet scandals, etc.
We've haven't been active due to Covid and work but now we're back. In this episode of Cool Story Bro we did a breakdown of 2020 using Fahmi Reza x Vice 2020 calendar, Jack Ma gate, US Capitol coup, some local news and more. As we're recording this episode we were waiting for the government's announcement last Friday (8.1.2021) on whether we'll be in a lockdown only to find out that they are announcing it on Monday (11.1.2021).
In this episode of Cool Story Bro, Yim speaks to the Masses team in regards to the recent CMCO imposed by the government. We talked about what really caused us to go into lockdown again and the other current issues that we are currently facing nationwide. Are the government taking the right action to combat the spike in this pandemic? With that said, let's all abide by the current SOP and work together to combat this pandemic. Wear your masks, always sanitize and be sure to stay home as much as you can. In this episode of Cool Story Bro, I spoke to Kuah Jenhan who is also the very first guest ever to have come on to the podcast about his directorial debut. He is part of the beloved MACC (Malaysian Association of Chinese Comedians) which consists of 4 members. Douglas Lim, Phoon Chi Ho, Jenhan and Jason Leong. Last year the MACC boys went on their final tour together and during that tour Jen Han directed a docu series of their time together during their final tour. It is now available to watch on Astro On Demand. It is filled with plot twists, jokes, heartbreaks, betrayals and a good time.
In this week's episode of Cool Story Bro, I caught up with Sofia Haron. We talked about what art meant to her, how she started, her techniques, her thoughts on certain art pieces, who she wants to collaborate with both internationally and locally, and more! Sofia Haron is a visual artist from Penang, Malaysia. Her approach towards her paintings is by using intuitive colours as her reference, this implies to what is being fed to her on a soul level while she is conceptualising any of her works. She has experimented with many mediums, from fabric collages to sculptures throughout the years and has also design set for music videos for local artists like Air Liftz.
In this week's episode of Cool Story Bro, I caught up with founders of Upsygals", pronounced like “up-cycles”. The two of them started Upsygals with the vision to reduce fabric waste by shopping at thrift stores and converting them into a unique piece of garment. The unique thing about what they do is that every piece of art/garment will be only one of one. Meaning you won't have to worry anyone else wearing the same piece of garment as you when you go out. Xinyi is a fashion design graduate from RMIT Melbourne, and her best friend Qianku, a vegan scuba instructor understood that shopping at thrift stores can be a bit tedious due to the smell and dust, or most garments are either outdated or ill-fitted. The two of them are only 23 at the moment, and they are already championing sustainable fashion with the vision to change perspectives and introduce everyone the benefits of being a sustainable fashion company. Be sure to check out their website for more information on sustainable fashion or if you simply just want to purchase their products.
This episode is one that is very close to my heart. Due to MCO, most musicians/performers are not able to perform at gigs/shows/concerts. So I figured why not have them on the podcast to not only promote themselves but their craft as well. The very first name that I thought of was Bazli, he is a long time friend of mine and was one of the reasons why I got into performing as well. I honestly wouldn't be able to play the guitar well enough if it wasn't for him. He used to play in a band called One Night Service when he first started gigging back then but now he sessions for notable names like Bil Musa and occasionally perform with his blues band. I have not caught up with Bazli for years but every now and then I'd still rock up to his shows. This is probably the most we've spoken over the years of not seeing each other and this podcast is pretty much where we relive our old days, his music, what's happening with our lives, a impromptu jam session, him playing the blues and a free guitar lesson. Also this man is about to embark on the biggest journey of his life. Which is marriage. I wish you nothing but the best and again thank you so much for coming on and hanging out. - Yim
