The NFL has turned the annual draft into a spectacle, like they do for everything else.  Detoit was no different this year, so the show this week is us having a great time!  We had a bonfire and just cut loose and recorded our show during the first 10 picks.  It will not be our most insightful episode, but one of the most fun we've had in a minute.  Hope you enjoy our real time reactions.  If you don't, you're probably not fun at parties.

Greg loves talking baseball and has an affinity for interviewing umpires this year!

Dale Scott’s career as a professional baseball umpire spanned nearly forty years, including thirty-three in the Major Leagues, from 1985 to 2017. He worked exactly a thousand games behind the plate, calling balls and strikes at the pinnacle of his profession, working in every Major League Baseball stadium, and interacting with dozens of other top-flight umpires, colorful managers, and hundreds of players, from future Hall of Famers to one-game wonders.

Scott has enough stories about his career on the field to fill a dozen books, and there are plenty of those stories here. He’s not interested in settling scores, but throughout the book he’s honest about managers and players, some of whom weren’t always perfect gentlemen. But what makes Scott’s book truly different is his unique perspective as the only umpire in the history of professional baseball to come out as gay during his career. Granted, that was after decades of remaining in the closet, and Scott writes vividly and movingly about having to “play the game”: maintaining a facade of straightness while privately becoming his true self and building a lasting relationship with his future husband. He navigated this obstacle course at a time when his MLB career was just taking off—and when North America was consumed by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Scott’s story isn’t only about his leading a sort of double life, then opening himself up to the world and discovering a new generosity of spirit. It’s also a baseball story, filled with insights and memorable anecdotes that come so naturally from someone who spent decades among the world’s greatest baseball players, managers, and games. Scott’s story is fascinating both for his umpiring career and for his being a pioneer for LGBTQ people within baseball and across sports.

Of course we're excited about baseball, and we get Greg's predictions for the season, but there's a lot happening.  The NFL won't quit making headlines, a ship destroyed a bridge in Baltimore, March Madness is in the Sweet 16, and Caitlin Clark beat out Mountaineers.....but lets be honest.....the refs really beat them.  Plus we talk about Road House (both of them) and Biggie has never seen Tiger King and now refuses to even try.......

From bookies, to MVP, to federal investigation, the world speculates about what this means for MLB, Major League Baseball, and Shohei Ohtani.  If you listened to our last guest, then you also know we made some money off of the first round of the madness.  We take all that in and more!

Sports gambling is more popular than ever and its March Madness time.  We ran into Chad Patrick, host of the Chad Patrick Show and he gave up the grind of the 9-5 a few years ago and decided to bet on himself (literally).  He's not helping anyone who's serious about getting some action.  He's a wealth of knowledge on a log of things and delivers on a great first round strategy for this year's madness.  Enjoy!

If you haven't heard about the Savannah Bananas, here we are to pull you from out under the rock you've been living under.  Its a great entertainment option that combines baseball and a lot of fun.  We tracked down Vincent, who is affectionately known as the dancing umpire.  He helps us understand everything that goes into what makes the Bananas must watch entertainment.  Great dude, great conversation.  Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Life happens and half the crew is out this week, but GFR and chadthemark are here to help through this lull in sports.  But is it really a lull?  The wrestling icon Sting retired, March Madness is creeping in, and Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are going to fight on Netflix.  Go tell someone that statement 10 years ago!  If you're dealing with depression from not having the NFL, we got you.

We enjoy the extra day that we get once every four years, and take advantage of Leap Year.  We discuss some professional wrestlers being overrated/underrated, kick off the first death pool of 2024, and complain like boomers over the state of the NBA all-star festivities.  Something about cinnamon bun beer happens too.
