From Fat Mary to Global Change Maker

    She was called “Fat Mary.”

Growing up in a Catholic orphanage high in Tanzania’s Usambara Mountains, Mary faced hunger, beatings, rejection, and the crushing reality of being a mixed race child who felt unwanted by both the Black and White communities around her.

The nuns constantly reminded her she was a “child of sin,” but Mary refused to let her circumstances define her future.

Determined to escape the orphanage and build a better life, she poured herself into her education, believing that academic excellence might be her only path to freedom.

That little girl would eventually become Nhambu, an internationally recognized author, educator, dancer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, and cultural ambassador.

In this powerful episode, Nhambu shares her extraordinary journey from hardship to hope, and how the rhythms, traditions, and resilience of Africa shaped a life dedicated to inspiring others.

Today she is the author of the acclaimed Dancing Soul Trilogy: Afrika’s Child, America’s Daughter, and Drum Beats, Heart Beats, and creator of the popular fitness movement Aerobics With Soul®.

This is a story of courage, identity, education, forgiveness, and the unstoppable power of the human spirit.

“WHAT IF AUTISM ISN’T WHAT WE THINK?”

What if the body isn’t broken… but trying to heal?

In this episode of Mission Unstoppable, Frankie Picasso sits down with Dr. Jeffrey Knight to challenge everything we think we know about autism, healing, and the body’s natural intelligence.

Dr. Knight doesn’t claim to “treat” autism.
Instead, he works with families to support the body’s ability to regulate, repair, and function at its highest potential.

Because what if the body already knows what to do…
and we’ve just been getting in the way?

Together, Frankie and Dr. Knight explore a different lens… one that focuses on:
    • The body as a self healing system
    • The role of the nervous system and inflammation
    • Gut health and environmental factors
    • Why symptoms may be signals, not problems
    • What real support for children and families can look like

This is not a one size fits all conversation.
It is an invitation to think differently.

Before They Were Criminals- Children who Commit Violent Crimes

Frankie Picasso and her guest, Dr. Smith, a renowned expert in child and adolescent development and the author of Before Their Crimes: What We’re Misunderstanding About Childhood Trauma, Youth Crime, and the Path to Healing, joins Frankie for an eye-opening conversation about Children who commit heinous crimes and how they arrive at that juncture in their lives. Were they born bad? Are their parents or lack of, at fault? Do we owe our children ( by our I mean society) an apology for letting them down?

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)—the hidden wounds shaping lives and, in some cases, leading to tragic outcomes are real. Bad things happen to a lot of us, but they don't always result in us killing someone. Why them and not us?

With 35 years of clinical practice and academic leadership at USC’s Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work, Dr. Smith unpacks the science and soul behind the choices children make under the weight of toxic stress and trauma.

    She candidly addresses:

✔️ Why some children commit unthinkable acts

✔️ How our stress response systems can be permanently altered

✔️ The role environment plays in shaping behavior

✔️ What true healing from trauma looks like—and how it can begin

And yes, the Menendez Brothers’ recent bid for resentencing is part of the conversation—offering timely context to a national conversation about justice, trauma, and what we owe the youngest among us.
