Badslant Podcast

How do you solve a problem like the general monotony of life and adulthood? For these three relatively well-adjusted, life-long friends, the answer is simple: you park them in front of live mics, ply them with alcohol, and hope they remember to say something interesting. In a world where anyone with a Twitter account is armed and ready with a ‘hot take’, these boys kindly offer to you their own… Bad Slant.

    Ep 289 - Prime Sentinels

No X-Men watchalong this week but the BS crew give first reactions to the latest episode of X-Men '97, “Tolerance Is Extinction Part 1”, featuring MANY spoilers (this is your warning). Oddly enough, that discussion is almost completely pre-empted by chili crunch and the drama surrounding it. (S/o to Fly by Jing… we see you too, Lao Gan Ma.) Elsewhere, the Iceman and JJ discuss the latest season of Physical 100. They eventually try to convince AJ to at least watch season 1 if for no other reason than the presence of Sexyama. The boys wrap up with a little sports, recapping the local professional football team's draft haul and paying 'respects' the NBA playoff teams that were gratefully put out of their misery this week.

    Ep 288 - Watchalong!

Ice is on excursion this week so naturally, things got weird. In the midst of X-Men fever, AJ and JJ host the first BS watchalong for episode 7 of the series. It’s an interesting experiment to say the least. (FWIW, the cue to begin the episode is at the 6 minutes and 35 second mark of this show.) Once the mutant mayhem plays out, the guys touch on the latest Deadpool & Wolverine trailer, which apparently everyone but AJ is dodging like the plague. Of course, the NBA playoffs are in full swing, as is the WNBA pre-season (go figure) so the boys have you covered there as well. And if that weren’t enough, the guys are finally safe to speak honestly and freely about the recent troubles facing America’s tech sweethearts, Apple and Tesla. It’s enough to make you wanna chuck your AR glasses from the window of your runaway EV.

    Ep 287 - The Name’s Bluey… Remember It

If you like cartoons inflicting untold levels of trauma on an audience, this is the program for you. The guys finally get to dissecting X-Men ’97, specifically, the Infinity War-esque episode 5. (Spoilers abound so you’ve been warned.) They discuss the build up to the episode’s most dramatic events, the insane details surrounding production, and what this might mean for X franchise going forward. That was almost the entire show but as with most entertainment programs this week, the guys are legally obligated to discuss Caitlin Clark, and the Beavis and Butthead skit on SNL. This episode is best enjoyed on long Metro rides (and with a creamsicle hard seltzer if you’re sneaky about it).

    Ep 286 - Du Ma 5

It’s a zesty one this week. AJ is clearly feeling a Wrestlemania hangover, while Ice is getting ready for a tradition unlike any other: Tiger Woods inevitably withdrawing early from the Masters. Oh, and in case you haven’t heard, there was an eclipse fairly recently. Strangely enough, its mysterious forces compelled JJ to visit every gas station in Loudoun County. Elsewhere: No X-Men ’97 discussion this time (you can thank JJ for that) but there is an update of sorts on the BS Parlay King title. All pretend title belts welcome here.

Ep 285 - Cheats and Yeets

For the first time in a long time, the boys are back in Studio A! On this momentous occasion, the Iceman and JJ brought snacks and beverages to sample on the show. Logically, the conversation devolves into a heated debate about proper expectations at fast casual restaurants. All three hosts finally get around to sharing their thoughts about XMen '97 (with a few spoilers sprinkled in along the way). And after all is said and done, AJ gives his final report on the Road to Wrestlemania, on the eve of the marathon weekend. Grab a sweet treat and have a listen…just not TOO SWEET.

    Ep 284 - Gentleman's Fun Zone

Pure chaos this week. The guys are remote in a new location, the aptly titled Studio Calaman-C. Uncle Phil is in town, and as usual, he comes bearing gifts of the boozy variety. The rest is kind of a blur but in in summation: Ray Ray is gracious host, Beertender makes dick jokes, General Jinro Jack takes command, AJ shouts about gambling, and Ice tries to get us cancelled on multiple continents. So yeah, chaos.

    Ep 283 - Shenanigans

The New Mod and The Iceman dive right into the weekend's festivities with a recap of his lovely Saturday with AJ and friends. The dynamic duo dive pivot directly into the XMEN '97 premiere (Spoiler Alert) and how it gives you all the childhood feels. Iceman has questions about the Star Wars Acolyte trailer and the fellas declare the BS Bracket Challenge is on for the BSPK title.

    Ep 282 - Oppy Gang

Like last weekend's Oscars, this week's show features a lot of Oppy. The guys start discussing Hollywood's biggest night but by the end of it, AJ is exasperated, while Ice and Panfish bounce a new business idea around. In other news, with the summer concert season just around the corner, Ice shares his plans to see an old fave, albeit in a place that's a bit further than even he would care to venture. AJ recovers enough to give a brief update on the build to Wrestlemania. Finally, the guys close with a wrap up on one of the crazier starts to NFL free agency, as well as a preview of this year's March Madness. Pair this episode with a peaty Japanese whisky.

    Ep 281 - Herndon Locals

It's a gluttonous one this week. Panfish completes another trip around the sun, and the guys celebrate with Northern Virginia’s best cheesesteak (allegedly). In other local news, the boys react to news of Buc-ees creeping ever closer to NOVA. (Spoiler: the responses were positive.) While the boys have yet to see Dune 2, the overwhelming success of the flick may force a group viewing in the very near future. And if that’s not enough, AJ has another update from the week that was in wrestling, to include MORE Hollywood Rock, new NXT ‘talents’, and Sting’s last match. More fun that jumping off a ladder onto a plate glass window. Listen in.

Ep 280 - Little Ice Cubes

It's a strange episode, with The New Mod (JJ) running the show, The Old Mod (AJ) sliding in at the 11th hour. Weirdness aside, the fellas didn't skip a beat. After a long haul to Studio B, AJ provides the latest updates on the Road to Wrestlemania, only this time, it features thongs. The boys discuss Cam Newton's now infamous fight clip and the sad state of youth sports in ‘Merica. They pivot from that awful thing to another: Wendy's proposed dynamic pricing plan, the public backlash to it, and their immediate retreat. They round out the show by paying final respects to the dozens of Outback steakhouses closing their doors and the Apple car that will never see the light of day. Good night, sweet princes. Anyway, enjoy the show!

    Ep 279 - Valpak'd

The boys gather to discuss what went right and what went wrong during this year's NBA All-Star Weekend. (Spoiler alert: there’s more wrong than right.) As if it couldn't get worse, they dissect a list of the best fried chicken chains in the country, and to put it kindly, the results were underwhelming. The fast food news wasn’t all bad though, as the fellas discuss a laundry list of 'state of the art' offerings from Taco Bell. Finally, AJ provides up to minute coordinates on the Road to Wrestlemania. Grab a whole wing from YOUR favorite fried chicken spot and enjoy!
