Woman Should Have Agency Over Their Own Bodies with Coley Campany - WTF028

In this episode, Kim shares an intimate conversation she had with Coley Campany. Coley is an actor, dancer, writer, and an advocate for women's reproductive rights. The two women met years ago when Kim photographed Coley's wedding and now they come back together to discuss women's reproductive rights and the importance of women having agency over their own bodies.

Coley is no stranger to heartbreak and in this episode Coley opens up about wanting to become a mom and the emotional and physical pain that came with multiple miscarriages. Then several months into another pregnancy Coley was told by her doctor that her child would not live outside of her body and she was faced with the difficult decision to induce and deliver early, which is considered by our society, an "abortion."  This devastating experience happened not once, but twice to her!

Coley discusses the shame that she felt during this dark time and how she worked to overcome it. Kim & Coley also talk about growing up in the south in a conservative Christian culture and the role it plays in shaming women for their choices and how trying to restrict women's reproductive rights in the name of god is dangerous.

Coley is now living in Atlanta collaborating with other women on an original play called "Still birth." With this project, Coley has taken her personal pain and turned it into something positive with the intention of giving a voice to women who have experienced similar losses and help them release the trauma of that loss. It's a subject that is difficult for women to talk openly about and Coley wants to change that.

Coley is a beautiful & brave woman and we are so grateful she was willing to open up and be so vulnerable with us!

Life is Short, Enjoy the Cupcake with Kat Gordon - WTF027

Oh yeah! It's the first episode of season 3 and we are so pumped to kick it off with Kat Gordon!

Kat is the owner of Muddy's bake shop in Kim's hometown of Memphis, TN. Kim has been enjoying the delicious baked goods, and we do mean DELICIOUS, at Muddy's for several years now so it was really cool for Kim to finally get to sit down and chat with Kat.

In this episode, Kat talks about life before Muddy's. Sometimes we have to try other things to figure out they aren't for us.

Spoiler alert: Real estate wasn't for Kat.

Kat talks about when her love for baking began and how she turned that into a business that is thriving today. Both women talk about being entrepreneurs and the importance of building a brand that you can be proud of and one that keeps your customers coming back again and again.

Spoiler Alert 2: If your product and customer service aren't consistently good, the number of followers you have on social media matters not.

Kim and Kat chat about the "not so glamorous" side of owning your own business and the mistakes they have made along the way and what they have learned from those mistakes. Kat also opens up about how she deals with competition and how she quiets the insecurities that creep in from time to time.

And of course, they talk about all the baked goods. They are so DELICIOUS!!! Kat might even share a secret ingredient or two!

This episode is about so much more than cupcakes and it's a great one for all the entrepreneurs out there or anyone that just wants to hear two women chatting about real life experiences.

Life is Not a Dress Rehearsal with Dianne Bevelander (Revisited) - WTF024

Today we are revisiting a conversation with Dianne Bevelander that first aired on December 12, 2018.

Dianne Bevelander was born and raised in South Africa and now calls The Netherlands her home. She is a professor of management education, with a focus on gender equality, at Erasmus University and she is Kim's husband's cousin. Kim met Dianne several years ago for the first while visiting the Netherlands and the connection was immediate! Dianne is an incredible woman doing groundbreaking work to level the playing field for women.

In this episode, Dianne shares what it was like growing up in South Africa and what brought her to the Netherlands. Kim & Dianne discuss the biases and other challenges that women face out in the world, specifically when it comes to women in management positions and other positions of leadership. They also discuss the difference between diversity and inclusion and the work that still needs to be done.

"Diversity is inviting you to the party and inclusion is asking you to dance. I think a lot of us now understand diversity but we are still missing the boat on inclusion."

Dianne teaches women that we all can lead and make a difference in helping to lift other women up. Women are 51% of the world's population and we can do great things together!

"All of us can make a difference. We can lead from where we are."

Dianne is also a cancer WARRIOR and has been in the fight of her life for several years now and is still fighting. She talks about about her battle with cancer and why she doesn't think of herself as sick. She also shares her feelings about life and death. Life is not a dress rehearsal so you must do all the things you want to do!

    "While you are living, LIVE!"

This is a really powerful conversation with a beautiful and inspiring woman! Believe me when I tell you that we can all use a little bit of Dianne in our lives so get to listening!

    xoxo, Kim

Hey Cancer! F You! with Lauren Weiner - WTF023

Lauren & Kim met several years ago through the WARRIOR photo shoot that Kim does once a year to empower and celebrate women who are currently battling cancer and some who are in remission. They hit it off immediately and have been friends ever since.

On this episode, Lauren talks about her battle with breast cancer and opens up about some of the things nobody tells you about until you are right in the middle of it like the red devil, side effects from the red devil, chemo brain, getting a mastectomy, reconstruction, mental exhaustion, physical exhaustion, and on it goes.

Kim & Lauren also talk about the pain of losing people you love to cancer and the importance, even in those dark moments, of holding on to HOPE. Cancer is a real a-hole and it does not discriminate but we have to remain hopeful and keep on living!
