Records Revisited
Sloan Golden joins us to discuss her debut EP “Long Conversations” and then we dive into "Heard It In A Past Life" from Maggie Rogers. Plenty of other discussion including she had me at the handclaps, walking past people we don't want to talk to, Alaska and Pharrell, "Astrology gets negative points," and things that help us be our best person,

Ronny Tibbs joins us to discuss the second Paul McCartney record (this one with wife Linda) - the underappreciated "Ram" from 1971. Plenty of other discussion including Myspace and Livejournal, tying audio and video into an EP, Steely Dan, George Martin's absence, McCartney solo records (I might have a hot take) and 70's solo Beatles records, "John Lennon can't be the only person Paul's mad at," fantasy milkshakes, ukulele, and Wayne says "Sublime has never done anything bad."

Michael Citro of Michael’s Record Collection (and occasional concert buddy) joins us to discuss the heavy metal classic “The Number of the Beast” from Iron Maiden. Plenty of other discussion including gallops, Vikings, seeing Crowded House together, mommy and daddy are fighting again, metal albums we own (or once owned), backmasking, lyrical controversies and lawsuits, and we determine that the UK charts are weird.
And, yes, I went out of order of releasing episodes lately. Sorry. Or something.

Sameer Gadhia and Eric Cannata of Young the Giant join us to discuss their sophomore album “Mind Over Matter” that is celebrating its 10th anniversary! We talk about the production of the album, sequencing, could they have made “American Bollywood” earlier in their career, vocal acrobats, misheard lyrics (Sienna?), getting “Teachers” and “Daydreamer” back into the live setlists, finding out your song is going viral on Tik Tok, and more. We love these guys!

Jocelyn Si of Walt Disco and guest co-host Jason Earle (of The Marinade” podcast) join me in discussing “Poses” from Rufus Wainwright. Plenty of other discussion including finding one’s voice in college, getting ready to tour with OMD in the states (in 2025, not in 2024), Bronski Beat, Nepo Babies, Death of Venice, welcome moments of horns, and "In A Graveyard" is I think the best Billy Joel song not written or sung by Billy Joel. Prove me wrong.
I won't guarantee that you'll like the album. It was a slow burn for me. This one takes time to grow on you and, I get it, sometimes we don't have that time to invest in an album that maybe you're only marginally interested in. But, I felt rewarded in taking the time to absorb “Poses.”

Guests Alice Wallace and little brother Dave Montgomery join us for this week's episode to discuss "More Adventurous" from Rilo Kiley. Plenty of other conversation including the LA country scene, Mule Kick Records, Post Malone, the Bluebird, male guilt, Jenny Lewis, alternative radio in 2004, beeps and boops, and we still don’t know the meaning of 11/11/46. Jenny needs to come on the show to explain!
And, we weren't very nice about "Ripchord" which, on any album, would be a song that I'd probably really dig. Sorry Blake! Give a listen and let me know your thoughts!

We have a few episodes coming up that are "not our typical format."
Here's the first one. We got to hang out virtually with Frank Turner for 30 minutes and ask some follow up questions about "Love Ire & Song" and a few things about his latest album. Wayne has a new favorite artist now. You're gonna have a new favorite artist as well.
Let me know your thoughts if we should do more of these types of bonus episodes. Enjoy!

We got the band back together! Another Seattle related band episode with repeat revisitors Kasey Anderson and Shawn Brown...this time Pearl Jam's "Yield."
Plenty of other discussion including the 1998-99 Alternative overcorrections, conspiracy theories and JFK, Ticketmaster, the song that should have been a single, "We're all crazy," Hummus, souvenir keys, and more. The intro song is Kasey's "Believers" from his upcoming new album due in October. Spoiler alert: His album is REALLY FREAKING GOOD.
One note: I overlooked that Pearl Jam was nominated for Best Hard Rock Performance for "Do the Evolution" that was won by Page and Plant for "Most High." I didn't see the nomination because that category was discontinued in 2011. Sorry for the oversight.

Plenty of other discussion including the new album from Josh called “Figure Drawing” and baptism, Quakers, the soul charts of 1974, Bill Withers, Stax Records, Gladys Knight, “I’ll Take You There” and a song that Ben thinks sounds like it, “You can’t wash the Bert out” and what happens when you have to do some of your own lyrical transcribing.

Plenty of other discussion including the new album from The Crane Wives called "Beyond Beyond Beyond," Blake Mills, Grammys 2016 when Alabama Shakes dominated, Nate Smith, "That's Enough" from Brandy, shoegazing, voice modulation/muffled vocals/reverb, and "You came to Florida? Don't recognize the name Stelth Ulvang? He's been a part of the Lumineers for 11 years as their touring keyboardist (and other instruments). But he also puts out records under his own name and with his wife under the moniker Heavy Gus. We dove into "There's Nothing Wrong With Love" from Built to Spill and talked about a whole myriad of topics including Bishop California, his work with the Lumineers, Hippie Red Bull Vodka, Elvis Costello, hitchhiking in Idaho (and avoiding pesticides in Idaho), Tetris Master, Miss Cleo AND you won't miss his haunting cover of Echo and the Bunnymen's "The Killing Moon." You get to hear that amazing cover as a sneak peek to his new album coming out in September. ENJOY!
