    Judge JoAnne Garcia learned a very important lesson after the birth of her daughter Alexia while in high school, it truly takes a village to raise a child.  As Judge Garcia notes "Good people are willing to step up and lend a hand when you need them the most.  They want to be a part of all of your success."  With the support of her family and friends, Judge Garcia graduated the University of Texas law school, was a founding partner in the law firm Garza Garcia, PLLC, and in January 2019 was elected as Hidalgo County Probate Judge.

    Leading the Largest Custody Battle in the United States

    In 2008 law enforcement raided the YFZ ranch, a community in Eldorado, Texas settled by the Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints.  The raid resulted in 462 children being removed becoming the largest custody battle in the United States.  In this Shero episode, Judge Carmen Dusek shares her experience as co-lead counsel for the children removed.

    Force of Nature: Chief District Judge Barbara MG Lynn

    As a law student, Chief District Judge Barbara Lynn joined forces with other female law students to form the Association of Women Law Students.  This Association sued five Dallas law firms for discriminating against women.  As a law student Judge Lynn sought to break down barriers for women and she has continued to do so throughout her career becoming the first female associate and partner at Carrington Coleman Sloman & Blumnethal, L.L.P. and most recently becoming the first chief justice in the Northern District of Texas.  In this Shero episode,  Monica Latin discusses with Judge Lynn about her legal career and the progress being made by women in the legal profession.
