- 50 minutes 4 secondsDeut 11:26-32 | Choose Wisely 9/16/18
Announcement! Next week College Ministry will join with the whole church to hear Dr. Owen Strachan provide Biblical thinking about gender. We'll return after that for "Connecting Christianity & the OT"
Reflecting back on the message of Deuteronomy so far, we are presented with two paths: obedience and blessing, or disobedience and curse. Pull up a chair as we consider how God motivates obedience by connecting it with our good, and how the pursuit of success can sometimes hinder our pursuit of God and his blessing.

Israel is reminded of how serious God takes ignoring him, and how the blessing of the promised land awaits when they live faithfully. But what does land have to do with us today? Can conditional promises to Israel teach modern audiences about faithfulness? Find out from Deuteronomy 11.

This climactic summary of the last 4 chapters of Deuteronomy asks the most ultimate question: What does God require of you? The answer is more than just good theology, it's an understanding of who God is that effects all of life.

No Deuteronomy sermon this week! E. D. Burns came to MRBC to present A Supreme Desire to Please Him: The Spirituality of Adoniram Judson. (He also has a book by the same title). Consider this a trailer for that presentation, which you can catch at Mission Road's website: mrbckc.org.
We'll be back next week in Deuteronomy. Until then, you can catch me on Twitter: @trevorAkin or feel free to leave a message through the Anchor mobile app.

August 26th, 201826 August 2018, 7:29 pm - 54 minutes 42 secondsDeut 9:25-10:11 | This Grace In Which We Stand 8/19/18
Moses describes his intercession on behalf of Israel, concluding his argument against the self-righteousness. While Israel has no righteousness to stand on, they will receive the blessing of the promise through the grace of God covering their sin, which grace they will experience when they follow by faith. Moses' intercession is a smaller picture of the greater intercession of Jesus, who by his sacrifice ended the wrath against sin and secured God's grace for all who believe.

Moses persuades Israel that any thought of having earned a right to the land of Canaan through pleasing God or just being more holy people than the current inhabitants is both crazy and a-historical. The lesson for us is to realize how our lives fail to meet God's standard (religious backgrounds notwithstanding) and surrender our lives to Christ, put our trust in the good life he lived on our behalf and follow him.
