Nature Unplugged Podcast

Nature Unplugged

The mission of the Nature Unplugged podcast is to cultivate consciousness in the digital age. That means creating healthier relationships with technology and getting folks more connected to nature. Technology, media use, and screen time are becoming more prevalent and certainly play an important role in our lives. Through our work and personal experience, we’ve also noticed that they can be a significant barrier to goal achievement, balanced living, and happiness. There’s also a large and growing body of research and evidence that supports the importance of connecting with nature, and its many benefits, as well as the impact of increased technology use and screen time. We’ll explore topics such as mindfulness, mindset, movement and play, self care, the benefits of nature, and how to have a healthy relationship with technology. We’ll also examine current research and what experts in the field have to say.

Our guests today are from the San Diego Suicide Prevention Council. Yeni Palomino and Lora Cayanan are here to share about the importance of suicide prevention, provide some tips and tools for how to be prepared in a mental health crisis, and more about the amazing work they do.

  • Episode 061: Hike 2B-RAD with Zac Humphrey

We are so excited to be teaming up with an awesome nonprofit, 2B-Rad, for a great cause this October. Our month-long Hike-A-Thon (called the ENU Challenge: Hike 2B-RAD) has a dual purpose: to help you experience nature unplugged and help others participate in outdoor adventures. It's a win win! Raised funds from this year's event will benefit individuals and families who are experiencing a financial or emotional hardship by providing scholarships to participate in a variety of outdoor programs.

The timing and the spirit of this event is in honor of Brad Humphrey, a committed husband, father, son, brother and friend who passed away from a rare complication of Leukemia in 2018. Brad loved his community as much as he loved the great outdoors. He believed in the healing power of human connection and being active in nature—and so do we. Today we are thrilled to have the opportunity to speak with Zac Humphrey, president of 2B-Rad and son of the late, great, Brad Humphrey. Zac’s joining us to share more about who Brad was and how 2B-Rad came into fruition.

    SHOW NOTES:

    BIO:

Zac Humphrey is a 22 year old student at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo going into his final year of college. Nature has always been an incredibly important part of his life, largely due to the influence of his late father, Brad Humphrey. Whether it be camping, hiking, going to the beach, traveling, or anything in between, being outside has always been a passion of his. Zac’s other interests include playing and watching soccer, watching movies and tv, and spending time with family and friends. When his father passed away in 2018 his family was at a loss. It was reconnecting with nature with his strong unit of family and friends that allowed them to come through it. Creating the non-profit, 2B-Rad, and partnering with Nature Unplugged was an incredible chance for them to give back to the community and honor his dad’s legacy.
