Ferris Cars in Gauteng, South Africa recently held a high profile event whereby a client purchased a Ferrari for 2.3 BTC. 

AltcoinTrader were instrumental in helping Ferris Cars accept Bitcoin as payment, and we spoke with the exchange's CEO Richard de Sousa about the landmark sale, and what it means for crypto adoption.

In huge news for South Africa's crypto industry, AltCoinTrader have announced that they will slash their trading fees by over a third from 0.375% down to 0.1% - but in addition, will also be listing PolkaDot's native coin, DOT.

South Africa's Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) released a statement today that they intend to declare cryptoassets "financial products" in early 2021. The declaration would come under South Africa's Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act (FAIS).

The FSCA did not state exactly when the declaration would come into effect, but the authority have invited interested members of the public to submit their comments to the office before 28 January 2021, indicating a likely declaration in late Q1 or early Q2 2021.

Global Crypto has learned of a developing David and Goliath scenario in the South African crypto industry, wherein crypto exchange AltCoinTrader appear to be taking on banking giant ABSA Bank in the country’s High Court.

According to sources, AltCoinTrader were served with a notice from MyGate Communications (Pty) Ltd received by the exchange last week Tuesday 01 September 2020. The notice informed the exchange that their QR code payment gateway service would cease to serve AltCoinTrader with immediate effect.

MyGate’s “Zapper” product is one of South Africa’s largest QR code payment gateway service providers, and according to our source, AltCoinTrader is among their top 5 clients by payment volume.

Global Crypto reached out to the company’s CEO, Richard de Sousa who confirmed the information - this interview provides de Sousa's comments.
