EnterpriseSplaining 65: Second Contact: When You Wisp Upon a Starship!
Top portion features the EnterpriseSplaining logo with the subheading “A Star Trek Podcast” Middle portion is an image from the Enterprise episode The Crossing showing Trip staring at a wisp with the words “Star Trek Enterprise: The Crossing . Below, there’s a section in blue with the white letters saying “When You Wisp Upon a Starship!” Over the image is a stamp saying “SECOND CONTACT”

This week, we’re on a second contact mission, revisiting the Star Trek: Enterprise Season 2, Episode 18 episode “The Crossing, ” which Scott Sigler explained to us last week in one of the funniest and strangest explainers we have ever had. He is back with us this week to hear how we thought his explainer lived up to the actual episode now that we’ve all seen it. Also, in our Mammary Alpha segment we determine once and for all whether “loyalty” is really an emotion.

A word of warning: If you haven’t listened to the episode before this one, “When You Wisp Upon a Starship!,” go listen to that first because this is a follow up to last week.

Also, check out Scott Sigler’s website to learn more about him and his podcasts and many novels (which we highly rikermend!)

Flopcast 709: Melt My Christmas This Christmas
    Flopcast 709 Glassblowing with Kaboobie

Flopcast episode 709! Every year, dozens of ridiculous identical holiday movies are unleashed by Hallmark, Lifetime, Netflix, and the like. (They’re so cookie-cutter that many of them literally involve cutting cookies.) And every year, we try to fix them by making them weirder. So we’ve selected a few new Christmas movies, and we’re discussing their plots (featuring time travel, glassblowing, and pickleball) and casts (featuring, as always, Lacey Chabert). Then we’re randomly inserting some strange new element (a camel with wings, perhaps) into each movie so it meets our strict weirdness standards. There, we just saved Christmas. Pass the figgy pudding. #christmasmovies #holidaymovies #hallmark #lifetime #netflix #nikiluparelli #davidbowie #letterstocleo #kayhanley #pennandteller #eso #esonetwork #geektalk #geekpodcast #geek #nerdtalk #nerd #nerdpodcast #podcast #flopcast

The 42cast Episode 265: We Live Again
    Gargoyles

Gargoyles debuted in 1994 as part of the Disney Afternoon – a programming block of Disney Animation aimed at children just getting out of school. The series provided complex multi-episode stories with complex characters that was rare for children’s animation. In this episode we take a look back at Gargoyles from a female perspective. We discuss the complexities of the stories and the most impactful moments. We talk about our favorite characters and the phenomenal vocal work that went into them. We also delve into the mythologies and stories that were used as the basis for so much of the series. We end with discussions of Gargoyles in other media and if we’d ever like to see a live-action film version of the series.

In lieu of a five-minute controversy this week we ask what everyone’s favorite Sean Connery appearance is.

This week Rachele, Juliette, Miranda, and Kori join the cast.

We’re going to flaunt our scars | Earth Station Boo

This week on Earth Station Boo, we explore the dark and devastating world of Things We Lost in the Fire by Mariana Enriquez. This powerful collection of horror short stories mixes supernatural terror with the real horrors of everyday life in Argentina, including political unrest, gendered violence, and poverty.

We discuss how Enriquez uses horror as both social commentary and personal protest. We look at haunted houses, cursed neighborhoods, and women who reclaim their pain through terrifying transformation. These stories do not offer comfort. Instead, they leave us with lingering questions. Which stories disturbed us the most? How does Enriquez blur the line between the horrific and the human? And how does her work stand out in modern horror literature?

Whether you’re already a fan of literary horror or discovering Enriquez for the first time, this episode offers a deep dive into fear, feminism, and fire.

Let the Festivities begin  | Earth Station Boo

This week on Earth Station Boo, we step into the bright daylight and floral terror of A24’s modern folk-horror film Midsommar. Directed by Ari Aster, this movie blends grief, emotional manipulation, and cult psychology into one of the most unique and disturbing horror stories of the last decade.

We explore Dani’s heartbreaking journey through trauma and codependency. We also look at how her transformation challenges the idea of a traditional final girl. In addition, we break down the film’s chilling rituals, unsettling symbolism, and constant use of daylight to create unease.

Midsommar also works as a horror breakup movie. Because of this, we dive into the role of isolation, cultural distance, and the fear of being a stranger in an unfamiliar place. We also ask an important question: Are the Hårga terrifying villains, or are they an uncomfortable reflection of human need?

Whether you love Midsommar, dislike it, or still don’t know what to feel, join us as we try to unravel the beautiful and haunting horror of this unforgettable film.
