- 1 hour 20 minutesA Conversation with Sean Martin
This week on Dropped Among This Crowd, Sean Martin opens up about the winding, unbelievable road that brought him to music — from singing in choir at four years old, picking up guitar and songwriting at twelve, recording his first album at just fifteen, and finding himself in the Airborne Infantry, looking to be a career Special Forces soldier at 18.
Sean shares the cinematic chain of events that led to his sudden exit from the military, the trauma he carried home, and the unexpected kindness of strangers that helped restore his faith in humanity while trying to reintegrate into everyday life. He also reflects on being told he wasn’t good enough to attend the music school he dreamed of in Minneapolis — and how that rejection ultimately pushed him toward a much bigger journey.
From arriving in Los Angeles with “Welcome to the Jungle” playing on the radio as he hit Sunset Boulevard, to spending nine years immersed in the full LA music experience while attending the Musicians Institute, Sean talks about becoming a lifelong student of life, music, and healing.
The conversation also dives deeply into mental health, PTSD, therapy, and Sean’s evolving relationship with cannabis as a tool for healing. He opens up about the mindset that carried him through some of the darkest chapters of his life: if he survived the trauma once, he could survive healing from it too.
Sean also discusses the formation of his band, The Quarantined, working alongside legendary Death Row Records engineer G-One Archie, navigating the harsh realities of the music business, and rebuilding after losing his band, his record, and his marriage. From there, the road eventually led him to Nashville, an open mic tour across the United States, unforgettable fan interactions, and the rebirth of The Quarantined.
We also talk about favourite and least favourite gigs, what the band has coming up next, and what success truly means to him now after everything he’s lived through.

5 May 2026, 10:56 am - 31 minutes 46 secondsA Conversation with Marty Seed
This week on the show, Sara J. sits down with Marty Seed — founder of the Atlanta Canada Fest — for a conversation that spans music, culture, and the journey of building community far from home.
A Halifax native, Marty reflects on growing up across multiple cities in both Canada and the U.S., and how those experiences shaped his perspective — from culture shock to a deep appreciation for diverse sounds and scenes.
From his grandmother’s love of music and Maritime roots filled with sea shanties, to embracing genres beyond what’s trending, Marty shares how his musical identity was formed early and continues to evolve.
The conversation dives into his time working in bars and nightclubs, and how those environments offered a front-row seat to live music culture.
Marty also shares stories from living in New Orleans — a city rich with musical history — including standout memories from Jazz Fest and tips for first-time visitors looking to experience the magic of NOLA.
We also explore Atlanta’s reputation as a thriving music city, including some of Marty’s favorite live venues and how the city’s geography contributes to its diverse musical landscape.
Finally, Marty takes us behind the scenes of the Atlanta Canada Fest — now celebrating its 20th year. What began as a way to connect Canadian expats through ATLCandians.com has grown into a full-scale cultural celebration, bringing together live music, family-friendly activities, hockey, curling, a poutine battle, and plenty of Canadian spirit.

28 April 2026, 7:00 am - 1 hour 11 minutesA Conversation with Sierra Fournier
Sara J. sits down with Sierra Fournier for a conversation about her recently released second solo effort, The Missloua Flood—an album born out of one of the darkest periods of her life.
They dig into what it’s felt like to finally have the record out in the world and the early feedback and reflections that have come in since its release. Sierra takes us behind the title—how The Missloua Flood came to be, and the meaning it’s taken on over time.
The conversation explores the album’s cohesiveness and intentional flow, and how her background as a radio DJ subtly shaped the way she thinks about sequencing and storytelling. They also talk about the idea that sometimes putting “2 before 1” just works—and what that says about instinct versus convention in the creative process.
Sierra reflects on the disappearing world of album artwork and why the visual side of music still matters deeply. They revisit some of those unforgettable album covers that have become permanently etched into our collective memory.
She also shares what it was like working with her Satellite Pilot bandmate on the project, and how these songs are evolving in a live setting with a new band—taking on a different energy and life on stage.
There’s a moment focused on the track that best represents her growth since her first solo release, and a glimpse into what might be coming next creatively—and even geographically.

12 February 2026, 1:50 pm - 1 hour 24 minutesA Conversation with Brady Callan — Digital Creator and Interview Host
This week on the show, fresh off celebrating two years of creating digital content for his page Cancon_eh, Sudbury, Ontario native Brady Callan sits down with host Sara J to talk about the inspiration behind creating a page dedicated to highlighting and celebrating iconic Canadian music—and Canadian culture more broadly.
Brady shares the artists and bands he’s had the pleasure of sitting down with, including an intimate conversation with Finger Eleven about touring with Ozzy Osbourne, recorded just weeks after Ozzy’s passing. He also reveals who’s still on his bucket list to interview.
Sara reflects on growing up with easy access to Canadian content from Buffalo, NY, seeing bands for free in the city, the advantages of living in a border town, and the alternative music day festivals of the early 2000s.
Brady dives into the Cancon playlist he’s built on Spotify (link in show notes), his creative plans for 2026, the history behind the Cancon_eh name, and a breakdown of Canadian Content (CanCon) guidelines.
The two reminisce about Richard Beland’s Toronto gallery event last October and share their favourite photos from his incredible collection.
Brady walks us through his lifelong love of music—what shaped him, the bands that built his musical foundation, the first music he ever bought, his most prized albums, his elusive “white whale” vinyl, and other standout pieces from his collection. He relives his iconic first concert and other unforgettable live music moments, speaks on the importance of supporting local musicians and venues, and shares some deep Canadian music history surrounding The Townhouse Tavern.
And we talk about Nickelback - how their music left an imprint on his memory those cold early mornings on the way to hockey practice, and a distinctly Canadian perspective on the love-to-hate them.
Brady also reveals his desert island albums, favourite music books (plus a recommendation for Sara), what music he’s currently “married to,” playing drums, and the Freaks and Geeks scene that perfectly sums up his childhood—jamming in the basement, collecting drums, and wanting to learn any instrument he could get his hands on… including an accordion from Germany dating back to the mid-1930s, gifted to him on Christmas morning when he was 18.
