The good news is that believers are not left defenseless. John points us back to the Holy Spirit, the truth we have already received, and the call to abide in Christ. When we stay anchored in God’s Word and remain close to Jesus, we can stand firm, recognize deception, and live with the confidence that comes from true assurance in Him.

In these verses, John is telling us to not love the world but follow the ONE who has overcome the world.

Our assurance in heaven is the foundation and motivation for our walking in obedience and love on earth.

John begins in the only place true assurance can rest, that is in the person of Jesus Christ. Jesus is God who is eternal, a Savior who can be experienced, and the Life that must be shared.
