In this very special episode of the Braided Faith podcast, I’m taking a moment to look back at where this journey began, from Project Purpose to Braided Faith, and all that God has taught me along the way.

I’m sharing some of the lessons I’ve learned about healing, faith, surrender, and the incredible importance of community. Looking back, I can see how God was weaving together pieces of my story that I didn’t always understand at the time.

I’m also sharing what’s next for the podcast and introducing Braided Hope, a new direction that is incredibly close to my heart. Braided Hope will create space for honest conversations around infertility and pregnancy loss, while also bringing greater awareness to the mental and emotional impact these experiences can have on women and couples.

For far too many people, these seasons are lived quietly and often alone. I believe we can do better. There is power in sharing our stories, sitting with one another in the hard places, and reminding each other that we don’t have to walk through them alone.

This episode is both a celebration of how far we’ve come and a look toward where God is leading us next.

Wilson Hickman is a follower of the Lord Jesus with a strong passion for storytelling. From a young age, Wilson began writing books in a variety of genres, and his passion for creativity led him to the visual medium of storytelling. When crafting a film, he often draws inspiration from his own life, vicariously learning and growing with the characters he creates.

Wilson’s latest project is The Lost Healer, an award-winning proof-of-concept episode for a Christian-themed fantasy TV series. Inspired by real-world spiritual warfare, the series transports viewers to an imaginative new world while encouraging them to navigate the struggles of this one. Recognizing the power of stories to shape the culture, Wilson seeks to make compelling, God-honoring entertainment that can be enjoyed by a broad audience.

Robyn opens up about a moment in her freshman year of college that changed the entire direction of her life, and how that one moment of saying yes eventually led her to years of missionary work in Indonesia with Mission Aviation Fellowship. But here's what I love most about this conversation: it's not a highlight reel. Robyn gets real about the waiting, the uncertainty, and what it actually looks like to follow God when you can't see the next step.

We talk about how to recognize God's voice when life feels loud, why the "in-between" seasons aren't wasted time, and how to loosen your grip on the plan you thought you had.

Robyn is a former missionary with Mission Aviation Fellowship in Indonesia and current children's ministry coordinator at Liberty Bible Church in Chesterton, Indiana, also a wife of 22 years to a hubby in law enforcement, and mom of two teenage daughters. Life has never been boring, and God has taught her about Himself on each and every adventure. She loves to share what she has learned to help women understand that God is trustworthy when He calls them to a new adventure.

What happens when we stop hiding behind the walls we’ve built? In this episode, we sit down with filmmakers David and Joseph to talk about the heart behind their Christ-centered films, the reality of addiction, and how true healing begins when we choose connection over isolation.

David is the founder of Cross Purposes Productions. Since launching in 2019, David has produced four award-winning films that have reached global audiences in multiple languages. With a background in radio, theater, and teaching, David’s journey is one of creativity, persistence, and a passion for sharing stories that point people to truth.

Joseph is a gifted young actor, writer, and director who began his journey on stage as a child and stepped into film at just sixteen with Cross Purposes. Now, at 21, Joseph’s work is already recognized internationally, with his films streaming on Amazon Prime, Apple TV+, Pureflix, and more.

Together, David and Joseph represent two generations of storytellers united by one mission: to create powerful, Christ-centered films that inspire and reach audiences worldwide.

In this New Year kickoff episode of the Braided Faith Podcast, I’m opening the mic with a messy bun, a full heart, and a moment I’ve held onto for far too long. At the end of 2025, I recorded a raw, unedited solo episode in the days following the assassination of Charlie Kirk. This was an event that stirred grief, questions, and a deep spiritual awakening across the country.

I never felt released to share it… until now.

As we step into a new year, I’m revisiting that moment not to dwell on tragedy, but to remember the shift so many of us felt…….a stirring toward courage, truth, revival, and boldness in our faith. This episode is a reminder to keep that momentum alive: to speak truth in love, to stand firm in wisdom, and to choose obedience over fear, even when it costs us relationships, comfort, or approval.

In this episode, I’m joined by David Turner, author of From Coward to Warrior, a powerful true story about his personal battle for courage and the fight to save his marriage. David’s heart for helping men reclaim their God-given strength is evident in everything he shares, from his ministry experience to his passion for coaching men through the cultural noise that tries to diminish them.

We talk about what it means to be a warrior in today’s world, how faith and vulnerability intersect, and why courage isn’t just about being bold, it’s about being obedient.

David Turner is author of From Coward To Warrior, a true story about his battle with courage and the fight to save his marriage. He has a passion for helping men become the warriors that God created them to be, coaching them to fight the prevailing culture that portrays all men as bumbling fools, and preparing them for the conflicts they will face in the modern world. His website (by the same name as the book) gives more information for those who are interested.

David has worked as an assistant pastor in the inner city of San Francisco, a private high school Bible teacher in the Silicon Valley, and as a missionary to the Fiji Islands, to name just a few roles. He has a Bachelor's degree from SFSU and a Master's degree from Fuller Seminary, with more than 20 years of widely varying ministry experience. 

He now trades stocks and options on the U.S. stock market, and is an investment advisor representative with Tradeway. His leisure time activities include restoring a 1965 Mustang in the garage; traveling with his wife, Tee, to places they’ve never been before; and writing stories he would actually want to read. David and his wife live in Northern California with their four kids.

In this episode, I dive into the biblical concept of idolizing pain and its detrimental effects on our spiritual lives. By examining the ways in which we may inadvertently make our pain an idol, we can better understand the importance of surrendering our suffering to God and trusting in His plan for our lives. 

In this episode, we will explore how idolizing pain can lead to distraction from God, hindrance to spiritual growth, impairment of faith, prolongation of suffering, disconnection from others, and a distorted perspective on God. Through this discussion, I aim to encourage you to recognize the significance of releasing their pain and grief to God, allowing for true healing, growth, and the experience of God's peace and joy.
