Tangazo is a meeting place where we share ideas and explore efforts to improve our human conditions and quite simply make our lives better. All are welcome, none will be judged, but all are challenged to look beyond ourselves and our notions of how others think about issues of cultural, political and social significance. We are building bridges of communication between the many groups that make up the St. Louis Metropolitan Region by sharing and reflecting on the stories and lives of a diverse group of guests.

With the upcoming elections, April, August and November elections, KDHX’s TANGAZO wanted to introduce to our listeners the people who are responsible for collecting, protecting and getting the votes out in our region, the Republican and Democratic Directors of the St. Louis County Board of Elections, Mr. Rick Stream, and the Democratic Director, Mr. Ben Borgmeyer, of the St. Louis City Board of Elections. St. Louis City and County represent over 20% of all voters and votes cast in the State of Missouri, in statewide elections, or actually slightly more than 1 out of 5 votes. Given the importance and weight that this region carries, we thought that having the two persons who are responsible for seeing to it that each and every vote is counted should visit and explain to our listeners how the process really works, how they protect access to the polls and how the voting process has changed in recent years. The Honorable Rick Stream has committed his entire adult life to public service by serving in the United States Navy, being elected to a local school board, serving as a Missouri State Representative, barely losing his race as County Executive (by less than 1%) and is now serving as St. Louis County’s Republican Director. Mr. Ben Borgmeyer, Esq., is an attorney who was is private practice and now serves as the Democratic Director of the St. Louis City Board of Election Commissioners. Both are very well respected professionals and provided an incredible amount of insight into how they discharge their duties and how their respective election boards work to make our votes safe and counted. We also discussed the national controversies about counting votes, when votes are counted and why Missouri has avoided the pitfalls and delay results that has created angst in other states. This was a wonderfully informative show.
