Black Holes, Margaret Hamilton and Women in STEM
Imagine going to the moon without a map, or trying to land with a computer too overloaded with tasks to know which functions to prioritize. That’s what two of the most famed Apollo missions faced — and would have failed to figure out — without the work of women. For the Apollo missions, it was Margaret Hamilton — and for last week’s black hole photo, it was Dr. Katie Bouman. On this episode of 14 Speaks, Dylan Van Sickle and Jenni Holtz activate their thrusters to travel at light speed through their accomplishments to understand the efforts of, and outlook for, women in STEM. What we found was few but loyal fans, lots of worthwhile promotions for both men’s and women’s games and a DePaul Men’s Basketball team that might actually have a postseason shot. Listen above to walk with us through Wintrust.
