Calling all square pegs to leverage their inner weirdo and make the world a better place.
Let's talk about neurodiversity! Why not?
That's one of our core values, after all... "Owning our awkward", ie. embrace the fact that we are wired the way we are on purpose, for a purpose.
And that's what our delightful guest, Lindsey Goff Viduchich is here to talk about with us Misfits today.
Have you ever wondered "am I too much?"... or how about this one: "what's WRONG with me?"
Or maybe that's the memo you've gotten from the world. Ugh, sometimes the world can be tough.
Enter Lindsey. We've already established that she is just downright delightful (oh, and in case you are wondering, yes, she is related to Bob Goff - listen to find out how!) - and it just so happens that she has just written a delightful children's book, "The Amazing Brain Club" that tackles, and more importantly, reframes these questions about the way we view the way we're wired (and don't forget those other misfits out there, and the way we view them!).
It's a fun, inspirational and highly helpful conversation. Plus, we get to find out a little about Lindsey's amazing brain with our Stupid Game. Cause you know you want to know.
And, by the way, as is the case with most great children's books, this one's got a pret-ty powerful message for you grown ups who are still asking the above questions.
So... If you know any amazing brains you’d like to nominate for membership... and maybe that amazing brain is yours... you should definitely listen. And get the book!

Wonders never to cease to amaze us here on the Isle. Whether it's the vastness of the universe... the intricate complexities of the human brain... or perhaps most mindboggling - the very idea that we could snag a guest like Dr. Michael Guillen to come hang out with us Misfits... and multiple times at that?
As the kids say: MIND [[[BLOWN]]].
That's right, the award winning ABC News Science Editor, Harvard Physics instructor, best selling author and movie producer Dr. G is back, and this time we are talking about his brand new movie "The Invisible Everywhere" , premiering April 8th. Based on his best selling book "Believing Is Seeing" it tells the true story of Dr. G's journey as an "atheistic scientific monk" and his quest for truth. As in THE truth. Not his truth. Not mine. Not yours. But THE actual, universal, absolute TRUTH. It's loaded with stunning visuals and enough astonishing scientific evidence to keep your nerdiest friend delightfully occupied for the entirety of its 80 minute run time. And it's also cinematically groundbreaking in the sense that... actually, you can listen and find out!
Oh, and just in case you were wondering, Dr. G both plays and ACES the Stupid Game (as always). Cause that's just who he is.

We've got a short-but-sweet one for you this time.

Maybe that's your thing. Maybe not, and that's ok - it's still for you. And you're here anyway, so
why not give it a listen. Like I said, it's short!
Oh, and I referenced some scriptures that tell the story of Holy Week, in case you want to look them up.
Here you go:

Garry Ingram, founder and president of Love and Truth Network is back on the Isle and it's not just for the Stupid Game (although it's a great one, if I do say so myself) but for an important conversation where we explore loneliness, shame, and the human longing to be truly known. Among other things, we discuss how isolation and secrecy drive spiritual and sexual brokenness, the church’s role in healing, and the need for curiosity, grace, and responsibility.
Gary also shares his compelling personal story of abuse and restoration, if you didn't catch it on his first visit to the Isle (which we highly recommend, and you can listen to it right here).
This is one of those episodes you really want to share, if you know anyone who appreciates transparency and could use some encouragement in the area of finding authentic community... cause it's out there!
Prayer of St. Francis (referenced in the show):
Lord, make me a channel of thy peace,
that where there is hatred, I may bring love;
that where there is wrong,
I may bring the spirit of forgiveness;
that where there is discord, I may bring harmony;
that where there is error, I may bring truth;
that where there is doubt, I may bring faith;
that where there is despair, I may bring hope;
that where there are shadows, I may bring light;
that where there is sadness, I may bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek rather to
comfort than to be comforted;
to understand, than to be understood;
to love, than to be loved.
For it is by self-forgetting that one finds.
It is by forgiving that one is forgiven.
It is by dying that one awakens to Eternal Life.

So... how'd those New Year's Resolutions work out for you? Yeah, that's what I thought.
But the good news is, now we can actually get on to the business of what we should've done in the first place,
and set some realistic intentions going forward.
And that's what today's special guest, Theresa Rowe is all about.
With over 40 years as a fitness expert (you'd never know it to look at her, just sayin), not to mention tv/radio/podcast personality, author and speaker, she's got the street cred to know what she's talking about. She's also got an amazing story of her own journey of healing, hope and redemption, and how she's taken all of it to help us on our wellness journeys - body, mind, and spirit.
We have a great conversation about all of the above. And as always, a riveting Stupid Game of This or That: Fitness Edition, where Theresa spills all the healthy tea.
Check out her latest book, Shaped by Faith: A Forty Day Devotional (it's not just encouraging words, by the way, which of course are great - but she also beautifully integrates practical exercises to create those neural connections)

We've got a special Valentines treat for you on this episode... a little romance, a little intrigue, and a lot of fun
with award winning author of legal dramas Jayna Breigh, chatting with us about her newest release "An Appearance of Impropriety".
You are welcome.
Why, the Stupid Game alone is reason enough to tune in... you can even play along with Jayna, and find out which period piece heroine you are (thanks Buzzfeed!).
And of course, you'll want to stick around. It's a great conversation, learning some tidbits about the legal system from someone who knows it well (Jayna has over a decade of experience practicing "big city law"), the importance of a mentor and we also touch on the topics of colorism, classism and how to know what's worth taking a risk over.
Connect with Jayna at jaynabreigh.com, and send her your cutest cat reels on her socials @jaynabreigh (she really wants to see them).

If you know me, you know, I love me some beauty.
Flowers. Waterfalls. Trees and bees. Skies and seas. All the scenery. All the beauty. All the time.
It’s one of our core values after all:
SEEK BEAUTY AND TRUTH EVERYWHERE.
But maybe you've noticed... it feels like it's getting a little harder to find it these days... There’s been a lot of ugliness out there. If you’ve been on your phone or turned the TV or your computer or stuck your head out the door even for a few moments, you know exactly what I’m talking about.
And...well... the ugly truth is... even without all the yucky stuff going on "out there", if we're brutally honest, there's still plenty of yuck to deal with a little closer to home for each one of us. Raising my hand here.
Even so... the good news is, beauty's still out there... maybe even closer than we all think. We just have to resist the ugly and uphold the beautiful.
And that's what this mini-misfit moment is all about!
Oh, yes... there's a Stupid Game, too, just for you! You'll have to listen to find out more... but if you play along... and email me ([email protected]) there may be... just maaaaayyyy beee a random prize for some lucky misfit out there. Just sayin!

We're kicking of Season 9 (that's right, SEASON 9!!! Can you BELIEVE IT???) with a very special episode inviting friend of the Misfits and all around Left Brained/Right Brained Renaissance woman Laura Wade. She also happens to be one of my dearest friends, and Type A role models.
Laura dazzles us with her Fanilow knowledge, not to mention her pitch perfect skillz in our Stupid Game... we talk a bit about our friendship of decades upon decades... and we talk a lot about music - namely her music! She shares some samples and stories behind some of the tracks of her latest musical project "Expressions"... and we have a great discussion about going out on a limb to "sing your own special song" which of course is music to our Misfit ears. Mostly, this is a conversation that will encourage anyone who's wondering "is what I have to offer worth sharing with the world?" (SPOILER ALERT: The answer is YES! But you should still listen, cause it's just so good).
You can find Laura (and get her Expressions CD at birdonabranchmusic.com (not to mention read her blog and watch some of her stuff on Youtube).

Henry Arnold is back on the Isle, giving us the down low on King David. and talking about his latest book, the final installment in his Song of Prophets and Kings series, called "Lion of Judah", all about... you guessed it... King David.
First of all, just in case you ever wondered about KD's psychological profile (cause who hasn't?) we've got you covered with our Stupid Game: Meyers Briggs Edition. We are nothing if not quasi-socially-scientific around here.
(btw, you can take the lightning quick assessment for yourself here:
https://excellenceassured.com/16-personality-types/free-myers-briggs-type-personality-test)
Aside from that, Henry's got all manner of deep insights about the life of King David, and the lessons we can takeaway, and maybe (if we dare) even take away for our own lives.
Plus, he's just so much fun to talk to; we know, we took a survey, and Five out of Five Misfits are in full agreement!

Oh yeah, we're still talking about being WEIRD, cause that's what we do around here.
(Go back and listen to Part 1, it's really good!)
If you've ever noticed, weird is one of them there SPECTRUM words, ranging from the delightfully eccentric to the dangerously delusional. There is weirdness that should be celebrated, and weirdness that should frankly be extricated. So how do we delineate? Should we delineate (spoiler alert: the answer is yes!)
And how do we know the difference between what should be celebrated and extricated?
That's what this short episode is all about.
Weirdos of all stripes are welcome to listen in!
