  • Home Business Idea - 1-888-Sell What You Say

    PhoneguycolorHere is a fascinating home business idea. If you have something interesting, entertaining or valuable to say, why not sell it? A new service called Ether (http://www.ether.com) provides an innovative and easy way to sell what you say to others that need or want you expertise.

    Here is how it works;

    You sign up for your 1-888-Ether phone number with an 8-digit extension that is unique to you. Then set it to forward calls to your actual phone number - your cell, home, work, or any other number. You set your own hours as to when Ether will forward calls to you.

    Decide how much is your time worth? $75 an hour? $15 for 15 minutes? $30 per call? Whatever you like. People will only be able to call you when they've prepaid your rate. Ether takes care of all the billing and payment processing and sends your fee via direct deposit or check. Ether takes a 15% commission with no monthly fees, no setup fees, and no connection fees.

    Everything is taken care of by Ether - the  phone number, billing, and payments. All you have to do in market your expertise, let people know what you are offering and give them your dedicated 1-888 phone number.

    If it can be offered over the phone then you can set up a home business through Ether and sell what you say. Pretty cool. This could provide a new way of doing things for life coaches, business coaches, consultants, stay at home moms with an expertise in something, legal and tax advice, diet tips, astrology - you name it. The sky is the limit.

    Now Skype has entered this arena with a beta version called Skype Prime (http://www.skype.com/products/skypeprime/). The service is very similar to Ether: sellers set a price, fixed or per minute, find buyers for their service, and Skype handles the rest. Of course, instead of using phone lines, both sellers and buyers use Skype's voice over IP platform. The downside here is that Skype charges providers a 30% commission - twice as much as Ether's 15%. The advantage of Skype Prime is it's 171 million registered users from around the world.

    Now all you have to do is figure out what you want to say, spread the word, and wait for the calls and money to start pouring in.

    If you start using Ether or Skype Prime, let me know how it works for you.

    Until next time,

    Be Great!

  • 5 Reasons Why I blog

    My friend, JP Maroney  tagged me a couple of days ago from a tag he had received with a simple question...the top 5 reasons why I blog? Good question. Here is my response.

    1. Fun and Entertaining. I am passionate about finding new small business and home based business ideas and presenting them in a quick, fun and entertaining way. A blog is the best way to do that.

    2. Personality. A blog shows your personality and your expertise. People begin to feel like they know you and that builds trust - always a good thing when marketing.

    3. Fast Exposure. Blogs showcase you and your business quickly, much faster than a traditional or static website. Blogs get indexed quickly so people can find your site easily on Google, other search engines, and blog directories.

    4. New Ventures. New Friends. A blog will expand your reach to people who are interested in what you are doing which can lead to joint ventures, affiliations, and sometimes just new friends from around the globe.

    5. Interactive. A blog allows you to interact with readers, get feedback, involve them in your ideas and build relationships, which is really what marketing is all about.

    And now I tag;

    Shaune Clarke
    Cheryl Mclaughlin
    Yaro Starak
    Shirley George Frazier

  • 60 Second Ideas - It's A Virtual Party - Go Cake Go

    What do you get when you there are over 700,000 birthdays in the United States everyday, gourmet cakes and combine it with friends and family far and wide via the Internet for a virtual party? GoCakeGo.com

    KieAnn Brownell is a self-described serial entrepreneur. She started her first business at the age of seven, when she and a friend checked out movies from the library and charged their friends admission to view them. They converted the crawl space into the “box seat” and charged double the price. That’s all it took to get her started as a successful business woman. After years of running her families wholesale flooring business, KieAnn was looking for a new challenge. Her entrepreneurial spirit from childhood still in full force and finding that indeed, there are 700,000 birthdays in the good ole US of A everyday, KieAnn said “Wow this might be something.”

    Combining mouth watering cakes like chocolate, white buttercreame, carrot, lemon and raspberry torte with virtual parties with family and friends from all parts of the globe via the Internet, KieAnn Brownwell launched GoCakeGo.com in February of 2006 after 14 months of researching, planning and building a website.

    In her own words, KieAnn says “My favorite part of this business is that we are truly a catalyst for connecting people.  When you send someone a birthday cake you are not only touching them yourself but you are initiating a spontaneous celebration.  Unlike flowers or cookies or something when someone gets a cake they usually invite others to join them and have a piece.  People love the surprise of receiving a cake from a friend or a loved one on their birthday.  It really is a step up from a birthday card.

    Find a way to capitalize on the 700,000 birthdays per day and you could be eating your own cake filled with dough, the kind of dough you can spend that is…

    Girliemen_1Like the multitude of Pluto T-shirt and Bumper Stickers that popped up virtually overnight last fall, when Pluto was downgraded to a dwarf planet last, Sarah Lefton, founder of Jewish Fashion Conspiracy   She set up a website and sent out press releases to major media outlets and low and behold Sarah's funny T-Shirt got picked up by CNN and Fox News - exploding her sales at $24.00 per t-shirt.  She also added a little political activism and more humor to the equation. "And 20% of proceeds will benefit the California Democratic Party, which as you may have noticed, could use the help," the Sacramento Girlie Men Web site read. The website is no longer active because topical protects have a short shelf life.

    Capitalizing on topical feelings, trends, fads, or slogans like Sacramento Girlie Men or Pluto that can evoke emotion in a humorous and tasteful fashion is an excellent way to earn some quick cash – just remember that fun products like this will fad fast as the subject fades from the headlines.

    I am a great admirer of Walt Disney who knew that if he could get people to smile, a Magic Moment for that person had been created. Sarah Lefton through her Jewish Fashion Conspiracy business and her other short term sites like Sacramento Girlie Men makes people smile. If you have an existing small business think of what you can do to add a happy twist to make your customers smile. If you are just ready to launch your company or in the process of formulating and refining your business idea do the same thing and you will be ahead of the game.

    The bottom line: Magic Moments equals Profits.

    In our next 60 Second Ideas Episode, you will hear from the San Fransicio Funny Girl, Sarah Lefton herself. As Always, You can hear it all and subscribe to this podcast at 60secondideas.com and of course through Itunes.

    sarahleftonjfc.jpgSarah Lefton's funny mind set and her Jewish pride led her to a profitable home based business. As the marketing director for a Jewish summer camp at Yosemite National Park, Lefton discovered a little doctoring of the word Yosemite would create "Yo Semite".  Amused, she silk screened the term on a few T-shirts for herself. Wearing her clever Yo Semite T-shirts around the streets of San Francisco, Sarah was continually approached by people wanting to know where they could get one. Two days later, she had taken orders for 36 shirts and her Internet based business, Jewish Fashion Conspiracy was born.

    With the success of the Yo Semite shirts, Lefton has now added additional designs to her product line. Always fun, and sometimes racy, the goal is to create a sense of cultural identify and pride among 20 to 30 something Jews.  The Chanukah panties are a huge hit and promote Jewish sex appeal. An avid baseball fan, Lefton also has designed a "Jews for Jeter" shirt to honor the New York Yankee's star Derek Jeter. Lefton's designs are a way to have fun and be Jewish at the same time. Lefton's clever idea has received media attention from a variety of Jewish publications and Time Magazine.

    In our next 60 Second Ideas Episode, you will hear about how Sarah’s quick wit earned her some quick cash just be paying attention to the news…and we will do a third where you will hear from the San Fransicio Funny Girl, Sarah Lefton herself.
