Murder Tonic - The Woodsboro Murders

As you hear the story of the Woodsboro Murders, you might get the tiniest sense of recognition. In the late 90’s, this grizzly series of crimes, perpetrated by the most nightmarish of teen boys, devastated the community, made national headlines, turned a tabloid journalist into a star, and made an innocent Halloween mask a symbol of terror! Forget the popcorn, you’ll want to lock the doors and switch off your phone for this one. Trust us, it’s a real SCREAM!

Tales Of Old Albany - 04 - The Next Generation
Series 1: The Schuylers and the Ten Broecks Episode IV: The Next Generation Within ten months in 1772, three new babies were born in the Schuyler and Ten Broeck households: Susanna Willinger Roseboom, Elizabeth Ten Broeck, and Rensselaer Schuyler. Susannah is the eldest surviving child––who we know of––of Britt and Will, who were enslaved by the Ten Broecks and Schuylers respectively, Elizabeth is the eldest surviving daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Ten Broeck, and Rensselaer is the youngest surviving son of Philip and Catharine Schuyler. Susannah and Elizabeth grew up in the same household: one of them enslaved, the other free. Rensselaer and Elizabeth grew up in the same social circle and were eventually joined in marriage. In the case of each individual, there are gaps in their histories. We’re going to explore what we know and what we don’t in this episode of Tales of Old Albany. “The Next Generation” PRESENTED BY AARON HOLBRITTER AND CASEY POLOMAINE WRITTEN BY JESSIE SERFILIPPI CONCEIVED AND EDITED BY AARON HOLBRITTER PRODUCED BY AARON HOLBRITTER AND CASEY POLOMAINE RECORDED BY ISAAC NEWBERRY Featuring: Ian laChance ……. Tales Of Old Albany - 03 - The Battles of Saratoga
Series 1: The Schuylers and the The Broecks Episode III: The Battles of Saratoga What happened at the Battles of Saratoga would decide if the American cause would live to see another day. If the Battles of Saratoga were won by the British, they could easily advance to Albany and take the city. If Albany was lost, New York as a whole would be controlled by the British, cutting off the Northern Colonies from the Southern Colonies, and effectively ending the war with a British victory. We’ll explore these battles’ importance, Albany’s involvement, and hear from combatants on both the American and British sides, like Philip Schuyler, Abraham Ten Broeck, Horatio Gates, Benedict Arnold, John Burgoyne, Baroness Von Riedesel, and Simon Fraser. The importance of what happened on those battlefields was not lost on any of the men involved, but, as you’ll see, that didn’t stop them from getting embroiled in petty arguments within their own forces. “The Battles of Saratoga” PRESENTED BY AARON HOLBRITTER AND CASEY POLOMAINE WRITTEN BY JESSIE SERFILIPPI CONCEIVED AND EDITED BY AARON HOLBRITTER PRODUCED BY AARON HOLBRITTER AND CASEY POLOMAINE RECORDED BY ISAAC NEWBERRY Featuring: Chris Foster …… Brig. Tales Of Old Albany - 02 - Philip and Brom, A Lifelong Friendship
Philip Schuyler was born on the corner of what is now State and Pearl Street on November 20th, 1733, to Johannes and Cornelia Schuyler. Abraham Ten Broeck was born on the corner of Columbia and Market Street on May 13, 1734, to Dirck and Margarita Ten Broeck. Both Philip and Abraham came from large families, but they were each the eldest surviving son. Both the Ten Broeck and Schuyler families came from rather humble origins. Back in the Netherlands, the Schuylers were bakers and the Ten Broecks employees of the West India Company. The patriarchs of both families had arrived in New York, or New Netherland, as it was called at the time, by the 1650s. Both families garnered wealth through the beaver fur trade. The families have a history of operating prominent trading businesses, serving on Albany’s city council, as mayors, Indian Commissioners, and holding militia commissions. When Philip and Abraham were born, they inherited the legacy of their ancestors. They made ample use of it, and built upon it with their own accomplishments, as you’re about to learn in this episode of Tales of Old Albany. “Philip and Brom - A Lifelong Friendship” Presented by Casey Polomaine and Aaron Holbritter Written by Jessie Serfillipi Conceived and Edited by Aaron Holbritter Produced by Aaron Holbritter and Casey Polomaine Recorded by Isaac Newberry Featuring: Ian LaChance* as Abraham Ten Broeck, age 20, and the Poet Isaac Newberry* as Philip Schuyler, age 20 Chris Foster as Abraham Ten Broeck, age 40 Patrick White as Philip Schuyler age 40 and Johannes Van Rensselaer Casey Polomiane* as Philip Schuyler, age 8 Brigitta Giulianelli as Abraham Ten Broeck, age 8, Catherine Schuyler, and others. Tales Of Old Albany - 01 - My Now Departed Friend, The Death of Alexander Hamilton
Nearly everyone now knows the story of Alexander Hamilton thanks to the popular Hamilton: An American Musical. What many people don’t know about are Hamilton’s connections to Albany. From the moment he married Elizabeth Schuyler, Hamilton’s history would be forever intertwined with Albany’s. Hamilton was not only Eliza’s husband, but he was Major General Philip Schuyler’s son-in-law. Hamilton was frequently in Albany, both at the Schuyler Mansion and trying cases in the Supreme Court. He, Eliza, and their children often visited the home. Abraham Ten Broeck's son Dirck was a mentee and former clerk of Hamilton's, who had a lunch date with the patriot on July 11th, 1804 - a lunch date that Hamilton, tragically, would not keep. When Alexander Hamilton died on July 12, 1804, 214 years ago today, it wasn’t just New York City, the place he’d most recently called home, that mourned for him. The citizens of Albany, including the Schuylers and the Ten Broecks, all deeply felt his loss.
