    November 6, 2020 - Mental Health & More

In good news this episode, we learn that COVID-19 doesn't stop 70 years of love, reduced human activity due to the virus has helped endangered sea turtles, and much more. A special shout out again to Craig Jessup once again for being a big part of why Good News: A Podcast is back. This episode, we get to hear the good news he sent my way.

COVID-19 has brought about isolation that's caused many people's mental health to suffer, and that's why I'm finding it more and more important to learn and pay attention to my own. What better way to learn than connecting with an organization which focuses on mental health that's not to far from home? That's why this episode's community spotlight is Newport Mental Health.

If you know of an organization in your community that's doing some good and deserves recognition, let me know!

As always, Good News: A Podcast is looking to hear your good news. You can call 917-960-7635 and leave a voicemail or send an audio recording of some good news to [email protected] with the subject line Good News.

Welcome back to new episodes of Good News: A Podcast. A special thanks to Craig Jessup who sent me some listener good news last month which helped bring this show back. In good news this week, we've got dogs sheltering from hurricane delta, an ice cream store employing individuals with special needs getting a big donation, and IKEA going greener in addition to more good news.

Starting this episode, I'm going to be doing a community spotlight which features organizations and individuals doing great work in their community. This episode, it's the Jason R. Flood Memorial. This organization works in the greater Derry, NH area to help kids, young adults and parents with education and helping to create safe spaces to talk about mental health, mental illness and suicide. I've personally worked with this organization before and seen the positive impact it's had on the community.

May 3, 2020 - Random Acts of Kindness & Graduations

In the US, it's apparent that people are finding ways to celebrate graduations despite them being cancelled due to COVID-19. And, around the world people are continuing to do random acts of kindness. It seems that almost two months into quarantine, people are still finding ways to get some good out of a bad situation.

In addition to random acts of kindness and graduations, this week we hear more from Rose Cayetano and how her crocheting is helping people in need. And, this past week Captain Tom Moore celebrated his 100th birthday. Happy birthday and thank you for helping raise $39 million for the U.K.'s National Health Service.

This week's artist spotlight is close to my heart: Angel Comedy. Angel Comedy is an institution at the heart of the UK comedy circuit run by comedians for comedians. And, it's where I first decided I was going to pursue stand-up comedy.

To help support Angel Comedy and their comedians, you can donate to their Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/angelcomedy

Next week we have two big national holidays in the US. May 5 is National Teachers Day and May 6 is National Nurses Day. Good News: A Podcast is reliant on your call-ins to keep this show going, and what I’m asking this week is if you know a teacher or nurse, reach out to them, say thank you and please share their wonderful work with this podcast. Call-in with a shout out or story of all their hard work and shed some light on all the good they do.

To share a good news story with this podcast, you can send an audio recording to [email protected], or call my google voice account and leave a message at 917-960-7635. From there, I can download the voice message and put it in the show. Just make sure you have the source for the info, if there is one other than you.

April 26, 2020 - More Good News About First Responders

Rose Cayetano messaged Good News: A Podcast on Instagram this week saying she'd like to here more good news stories about first responders, and that's what we have. Of course, that's in addition to more good news in general. Stories this week include a college tuition price drop, a comedian getting his first writing gig, a FedEx man saving a wedding and an unnamed regular leaving a $1200 tip at an Arkansas steakhouse.

For the artist spotlight, we have our first musician: Kristen Merritt. She shares her song "Thyme" with the podcast. For more music from Kristen here are links to her content:

    April 19, 2020 - Attitudes Of Gratitude

"I think the best silver lining I have is that this year I decided to focus on attitudes of gratitude." - Peachy Healy

This week, in addition to hearing from Peachy Healy, we have two more callers who share a story about a woman getting free beer and a new album that brightened someone's week. As for the artist spotlight, it's Gus Constantellis who released a 30-minute stand-up special during quarantine called "Pepper." You can follow Gus and all his hilarious content on Instagram @constatlygus.

As for other Good News, the Girl Scouts are still selling, and donating, their famous cookies, a bar finds a clever to pay laid off employees, and a 99 year-old World War Two veteran raises $22 million for the U.K.'s National Health Service

As is the show, I'm looking to hear from you, and I'm putting out a challenge. This week, take 5 minutes to sit down and record a conversation with someone you love about their silver linings. Then, send it my way. As always, you can call 917-960-7635 and leave a voicemail or send an audio recording of some good news to [email protected] with the subject line Good News. April 12, 2020 - The Tooth Fairy: An Essential Worker

Another essential worker: the Easter Bunny.

This week, you can hear more good news about the recovering environment due to COVID-19 measures, graduation ceremonies taking place online, celebrities and athletes using their social capital to help those in need and a hospital getting some donated candy for the holidays.

We all are looking for silver linings right now, and it can be a challenge. The new goal and direction of Good News: A Podcast is try to build a shared experience whether it be a moment of escapism or, better yet, a moment of were-in-this-togetherness. To build that shared experience, I’m asking you to send me voicemails of good news stories you read, see or hear about in the news or just Good News that happens in your life. April 5, 2020 - "If It Comes With A Silver Lining, I'm Happy"
My favorite part of this episode is Matt Gatie's story with his grandmother sharing her silver linings. Goosebumps.  In more good news from quarantined times, communities are stepping up to make sure students have resources to continue school online, companies are giving away products to those who need them most and an artist spotlight to help make us laugh.  We all are looking for silver linings right now, and it can be a challenge. The new goal and direction of Good News: A Podcast is try to build a shared experience whether it be a moment of escapism or, better yet, a moment of were-in-this-togetherness. March 29, 2020 - Sharing Some Silver Linings

Alliterations aside, Good News: A Podcast is back to share some of your silver linings during uncertain and quarantined times.  Globally, we are in an unprecedented position with an ongoing pandemic, but from bad situations there can still be some good happenings.

That said, the show is going to be a little different. This time, Good News is going to be listener driven. I’m looking for you, the listeners, to help generate the content.

Call and leave me a voicemail with good news stories that you read, see, hear or have happen in your own life. When you leave a voicemail, feel free to say your name if you want but there’s no pressure. All that’s really required is providing the source for your information if you’re talking about something you see in the news so I can do my due diligence and fact check for us all. But, if it’s just something in your life you think the world should hear, just call and share.

To leave a voice mail, call Good New: A Podcast's Google Voice account at 917-960-7635.

    February 1, 2019 - Tax Season
Fall, football and tax - all seasons certain people get way too excited about. You know who you are tax fan.  Taking a feature to explain taxes is a risk.  No offense single fan of tax season, but there’s no high profile, star studded, concussion causing event, or foliage, to get people going. Tax season is a yawn topic. Some people might even go as far as to say it’s worse than McDonald’s McRib season. But, unlike the McRib, everyone should want to know what goes into taxes. So this week: 10 things to know about taxes in tax season.   As always, there's news to know and good news too. This week, the government shutdown is over, a good Samaritan in Chicago is helping people get off the street during the polar vortex and the monarch butterfly population is increasing.   Next week is a listener good news episode, so if you’ve got good news, and want to be on the show, leave a voicemail at 971-319-5829 or send a recording to [email protected].   If you enjoy Good News: A Podcast please support by contributing at https://www.patreon.com/goodnewsapodcast.
