A few notes from my podcast:

Fear Characteristics – The brain doesn't know the difference between real fear and perceived fear. It obeys what you feed it. You are the master.

    1. Taste
    2. Feeling – stomach, tension, heart, paralyzing.
    3. Seeing things that aren't there.
    4. Stagnancy
    5. Depression
    6. Separates you from God (Adam in the garden)
    7. Isolation

    Faith Characteristics

    1. Mouth is watery.
    2. Feeling – joy, energy, optimism
    3. Build things, growth
    4. See possibilities
    5. Connection

How to walk out of fear:

    1. Ignore the voices and do what you are afraid of.
    2. Reach out to your friends and family – connection
    3. You have to change your physical state before you change your mental state. Your mental state will take your orders and realize you aren't in a fight or flight place anymore and that you are indeed going to be ok. You are safe.
    4. Laughter – the brain doesn't know the difference between a fake laugh and a real one.
    5. BIGGEST OF ALL…
      1. Prayer
      2. Meditation
      3. Breathing Techniques

    Listening for PTSD

The statistics for suicide and PTSD in the military and with first responders is at an alarming level. Even among civilians, suicide is the second leading cause of death in children ages 10-17 and the leading cause of death among young men, ages 18-24.

Fortunately, leaders in our community are listening and more programs and resources are being developed to help bring these statistics down.

In this episode, my guest, Army Veteran and Police Sergeant, Ken Washington shares valuable tools that can help us be part of the growing number of people standing in the gap for loved ones who are hurting and weary.

I couldn't put the book down and finished it in a day. Get the book and listen to this podcast - you're going to love it!

    The New Millennium Dad

My guest on today's show, Barre Morris II, is a single dad and the author of the upcoming book, "The New Millennium Dad: Redefining Fatherhood in the 21st Century." We discuss fatherhood in a culture where the modern family has dramatically differed from 20 years ago and how adults and children can all gain an enlightened awareness, and a better understanding of what loving, affectionate, and actively involved fathers and grandfathers are.

"A father's expression of love and his active involvement can have a lasting and positive impact on his children, especially on his son's life, even if fathers do not share a home with their children. The love, affection, support and active involvement of a father, or lack thereof, may therefore answer, and present solutions to some of the most alarming and detrimental problems plaguing society and families today." Barre Morris II

As a former, single mother of 3 kids, I was really interested in what Barre had to say about raising children from a single dad's perspective. I am definitely bringing him back for a Part 2! Listen in and let me know your thoughts.
