Vigorously Equipping Men to Pursue Biblical Manliness
In Joshua 23, we begin to wind down the life of Joshua. It is clear that he is old and advanced in years.
Joshua gives the leaders clear instructions on how they should live, and a warning about what happens if they throw off restraint and live like the nations around them.
Joshua has followed the Lord and led his people for many years now and it is time for him to leave this earth. He makes sure that before he leaves he tells reminds them of the truth that they have been experiencing all these years.

In Joshua 22, the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh finally head home. After years of fighting faithfully alongside their brothers, they return to the east side of the Jordan. But before they cross over completely, they build an altar—an altar that almost sparks a civil war.
What looked like rebellion was actually a desire for remembrance. What felt like division was really a plea for unity.
In this episode of The Pursuit of Manliness, we unpack the tension, the misunderstanding, and the powerful lesson for men who want to lead well in their homes, churches, and communities.
We’ll talk about:
Joshua 22 reminds us that mature men don’t react—they seek understanding. They don’t assume the worst—they pursue clarity. And they don’t drift from their calling once the battle is over.

In this episode of The Pursuit of Manliness, we walk through Joshua 14–21 and confront a reality every man knows: waiting can be very difficult.
The land had been promised. The battles had been fought. But now came the slow work of allotment, boundaries, and settling in. For some, the promise felt delayed. For others, it may have felt overlooked. Yet in the waiting, God was still working.
In this episode we look at:
Caleb’s unwavering faith — decades after the promise was given, he was still ready to take the hill country. He did not grow bitter. He did not grow passive. He did not grow weary.
The steady faithfulness of God in distributing the inheritance exactly as He said He would.
The quiet obedience required to trust the Lord when progress feels slow and recognition feels small.
Joshua 21:45 reminds us: “Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”

In Mark 11 we see Jesus showing His displeasure of what has become His temple and what it was doing to those who were to benefit from it. Many times as men we appreciate the emotion that we see from Jesus. However when we step back and consider how we are bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, (1 Corinthians 3:16) we must consider how Jesus views the way we are taking care of our temple.

In Joshua 13, we read the sobering words: “Joshua was old and advanced in years…” (Joshua 13:1). The battles have been many. The victories significant. The scars real. Yet the Lord tells him, “There remains yet very much land to possess.”
In this episode of The Pursuit of Manliness, we issue a clear charge to older men: Do not disengage. Do not coast. Do not check out.
Our culture tells seasoned men to slow down, sit back, and let someone else carry the weight. But Scripture shows us something different. Even in advanced years, Joshua is still leading, still dividing the land, still stewarding responsibility, and still obeying the Lord.

In this episode of The Pursuit of Manliness, I sit down with J. Josh Smith, author of The Man for the Day, for a powerful conversation about biblical masculinity, intentional discipleship, and becoming the man God is calling you to be right now.
We talk about what it means to be the man for the day in your home, your church, and your community. Not yesterday’s man. Not tomorrow’s man. But the faithful, present, obedient man God requires today.

Some men are doing the best they can. They are showing up, putting in the work, providing well and using their life to benefit others. Getting worn down is inevitable.
We should expect life to knock us down a few times, the question is, "Will we continue to get back up and answer the bell one round at a time?"

In this episode of The Pursuit of Manliness podcast, we unpack what it means to lead your life one decision at a time.
Joshua didn’t conquer the land through reputation; he did it through faithfulness. He showed up and he obeyed. He trusted God’s promises even when the opposition was intimidating.
As men, we often want the big breakthrough and the instant transformation. But Joshua 11 reminds us that lasting victory is built on small, faithful choices stacked on top of each other.
In this episode, we’ll discuss:
· Why fear loses its grip when obedience takes the lead
· The danger of partial obedience and why thorough faithfulness matters
· How leadership is shaped more by daily discipline than big moments
· What it looks like to trust God when the opposition seems overwhelming
If you feel like you’re facing a coalition of pressure at work, at home, spiritually this episode will challenge you to focus on what’s right in front of you.

Joshua 10 reminds us that obedience doesn’t end when the agreement is made—it’s proven when pressure comes. After Israel’s covenant with the Gibeonites in Joshua 9, Joshua is immediately pulled into a fight he didn’t initiate but is still responsible to finish.
In this episode of The Pursuit of Manliness, we look at what it means for men to follow through when commitment becomes costly. Joshua doesn’t hesitate, delay, or look for a way out. He shows up, fights hard, and trusts the Lord to do what only God can do—even to the point of the sun standing still.
This chapter challenges us to consider how our present faithfulness prepares us for future battles. Half-hearted obedience, delayed action, or unfinished work doesn’t just affect today—it weakens us for what’s coming next. God honors men who keep their word, stand firm under pressure, and move forward in confidence that the battle ultimately belongs to Him.
