WAIT, THERE'S AN ORIGINAL DALI PAINTING HANGING IN RIKERS ISLAND?!?! Well... there was, anyway. Dali was supposed to pay a visit to the prison in 1965, but instead of showing up, gave them the hastily made painting that he called "Christ on the cross" (a good swear, as anyone familiar with Long Island mothers of a certain stripe will tell you!). It hung in various places throughout the facility for forty years until someone on the inside was brazen enough to steal it in 2003 - AND REPLACE WITH HIS OWN HASTILY SCRAWLED PAINTING! This one's a kooky one, Fam!

Hey Fam! Our bonus episodes are coming back in April... BUT WE COULDN'T WAIT! We wanted to share this throwback episode because IT'S WILD, but also because we talked about it in our recent episode about Andrea Yates and we thought... LET'S GIVE HER ANOTHER LISTEN! Have fun, enjoy, and whatever you do DO NOT GOOGLE THE PICTURES!!!
Seinfeld mocked it. Letterman ranked it in his top ten list. And more than fifteen years later, its infamy continues. Everyone knows the McDonald's coffee case. It has been routinely cited as an example of how citizens have taken advantage of America's legal system, but is that a fair rendition of the facts? Hot Coffee reveals what really happened to Stella Liebeck, the Albuquerque woman who spilled coffee on herself and sued McDonald's, while exploring how and why the case garnered so much media attention, who funded the effort, and to what end.
In part 2, we start to understand the severity of Andrea's postpartum depression - an illness that went untreated so long that it developed into a psychosis. And even after she recovered from it the first time and she and her husband Rusty were warned that it would be worse if they had any more kids, they went ahead and had their fifth. Many questions swirl around Rusty and his insistence that they continue to reproduce. And only when Andrea's attorney is finally able to make the connection between her mental illness and her religious indoctrination is a jury able to see her crime for what it was, a perfect storm of coercion, depression, and a desperate attempt - as backwards as it sounds - to save the souls of her children. YEAH IT'S A LOT FAM. PLEASE COME HOLD OUR HANDS AND SCREAM WITH US.

On June 20, 2001, 36-year-old Andrea Yates did the unthinkable when she drowned her five children in the bathtub of her family home. For decades, that was all anyone knew. We called her crazy, evil, unforgivable. We couldn't imagine how it could have happened. But the backstory is horrifying and centers around the "teachings" of a radical street preacher, who psychologically tortured and tormented his followers into believing they and their children were unsavable and doomed to spend eternity in hell. Parents had until "the age of accountability" - only twelve years old - to save their kids from eternal torment and damnation. We hate this guy, fam. And as you come to understand the power he had over Andrea, you start to understand the why behind her actions.

In March 2013, thirty-year-old Joanne Dennehy went on a violent ten-day rampage in the UK - murdering three men and severely wounding two others in vicious and random attacks. She had a driver and a hostage - YES, A HOSTAGE - as witnesses. She received a "whole life sentence" for her crimes, being only the fifth woman in the history of the country to receive such a punishment. So WHAT ON EARTH drove her to commit these crimes? And what explains her extremely bizarre behavior once she was arrested? We're....not really sure. But we're gonna scream our way through this one, and we'd love for you to join us.

On February 3, 2003, cops were called to the home - OH EXCUSE ME, I MEANT TO SAY SUUUUUUPER TACKY CASTLE. YES CASTLE - of music producer and "legend" Phil Spector. Spector claimed that a woman had come into his home and then killed herself in his foyer. If that sounds insane, it's because it is and it is DEFINITELY not what happened. The woman's name was Lana Clarkson AND SHE WAS FREAKING AWESOME. Of course the trial was a circus. SPECTOR WORE WIGS FOR DAYS. Oh and Alan Jackson from the Karen Read case is back and has some crazy shit to say. JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE, FAM!

In the early morning hours of June 5, 2002, a man appeared in 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart's bedroom at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah. For the first time, both of them are telling their complete stories. From Elizabeth's harrowing nine months with her captors to Mary Katherine's traumatizing experience in isolation trying to remember all the details of that terrifying night, we're gonna unpack AND SCREAM ABOUT IT ALL. As we always used to say IT'S NEVER THE SATANIC CULT IN THE WOODS--THEY DON'T EXIST! But try telling to Michelle Smith and Dr. Lawrence Pizder, whose book Michelle Remembers was published in 1980 and IS STILL RUINING LIVES TO THIS DAY! The book was based on years of "therapy sessions" in which Michelle was regressed to her childhood and allegedly uncovered memories of horrendous abuse and torture at the hands of a Satanic Cult. Evidence in the documentary suggests that this likely... didn't happen. BUT SO BEGAN THE ERA OF SATANIC PANIC ANYWAY! There's... a lot to unpack here fam. Join us, won't you?

On December 3, 1999, billionaire Edmond Safra and his nurse Vivian Torrente died in a house fire in his 10,000-square-foot Monaco loft. The circumstances are... insane. Like, in the most secure country in the world, surrounded at all times by a team of private bodyguards, how could this have happened? Welp, turns out, there's lots of ways. Was it the Russian mafia who was, like, mad, because, like mafia? Was it his private American nurse who'd been looking for a payout? Was it his wife who stood to inherit billions? OR WAS IT AN EPIC, DISASTEROUS, COMPLETELY AVOIDABLE ACCIDENT THAT EVEN WHEN EXPLAINED THE STUPIDITY IS SO ENRAGING YOU'LL FIND YOURSLEF LEVITATING OFF YOUR CHAIR? Sorry for yelling. Or was it all of thee above? Come untangle it with us, won't you?

FAM...I KNOW WE SAY THIS A LOT, BUT THIS ONE IS WILLLLLLLD. In the early 1960, we don't know exactly when, George Carol went out for a pack of cigarettes and never came home. His four kids spent decades wondering what happened to him. Their mother, Dorothy, didn't like to talk about George and she didn't want to answer any of her children's questions about him. As adults, the kids decided to search. They were given a clue from an unlikely source. And so they started to dig--figuratively and literally. What they discovered leads to one of the most shocking conclusions we ever seen. Gird your loins, grab your dog or your cocktail, or nearest loved one (WITH CONSENT, PEOPLE!), because you are not going to believe what you are about to hear.
