    Episode 128: Mastering The Craft

    In Episode 128 we chat about Phish's 2024 Run at Moon Palace in Cancun, MX. Focusing on the 35min "Wave of Hope," we discuss how Phish is capable of playing a this level in their 41st year, the connections we hear to Rush's early-80's output, and what this might mean about the upcoming run at the Sphere in mid-April. In addition, we check in with Eggy and Goose to see how early-2024 is treating them, plus celebrate the 10th anniversary of The War on Drug's "Lost In The Dream." Finally we chat about the first quarter of 2024 for new albums. We recommend a bunch of music and share how our musical interests continue to evolve.

    Episode 127: Phish - 9.4

    In Episode 127 we shine a light on Pitchfork dot com as the site undergoes a period of uncertainty following the announcement that it will be folded into GQ Magazine. A site that has long been a formative inspiration for us as listeners, as well as for this show, we chat about some of our favorite reviews from the site, our thoughts on its evolution over the last decade, and whether or not we think it should've spent more time covering Phish. We spend much of the episode discussing Pitchfork, but highlight some of our favorite Indie Rock flavored Phish jams as well, including the 11/18/96 "Simple," the 12/16/99 "Tweezer," 7/20/14 "Ghost," and the 4/21/23 "Blaze On."

    In Episode 126 we focus on Phish's 2023 New Year's Eve Run with a deep-dive conversation on the jam off "AC/DC Bag" from 12/31/2024. We discuss the first performance of Gamehendge since 7/8/1994, the restructuring of the story, and where this show falls in the larger context of Phish history. We then spin off into a discussion around concept albums. We discuss what makes a great concept album, why so many lead to exhaustion, and how they can be useful for bands.

    In Episode 124 we focus on Phish's 2023 Summer and Fall Tours with a deep-dive conversation on the jams off "Ruby Waves" from Alpharetta, GA on 7/14/23 and Dayton, OH from 10/11/23. We discuss their use of Krautrock as a tool to expand their jams. We then spin off into a discussion around the larger history of Krautrock and some of the formative bands in the genre, as well as a few current bands playing within the style.
