Three friends (and occasional guests) discuss the various adaptations of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, as well as lots of other animes, and public transit in New York and New Jersey. We sometimes get explicit. https://www.patreon.com/jjbpod
[Go to 17:14 for SBR Episode 2-ish talk]
In a strange twist of fate, we got episode 2 of Steel Ball Run a lot earlier than we thought. It's pretty out there, but after the ending of part 6, all bets must be off! We may just have to consider this part of Araki's strange genius. Besides covering episodes 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3 of SBR, we also talk about Alyssa Liu's first pitch, game tutorials, what goes on in Netflix boardrooms, and what animes will tide us over while we wait for SBR to bring us back to the old West. |
WE'RE BACK! Well, we never left you - we've covered dozens and dozens of animes between the end of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Part 6 "Stone Ocean" and the long-overdue, glorious debut of Part 7, "Steel Ball Run." But we're finally about JoJo's again...for one week. We talk about the upcoming JoJo Caravan event at Kinokuniyas, how strange it is to know nothing about the next SBR episode, the doc Free Solo, robotic camel racing, and how to spell "accumulate." (Wow it's one M?) |
On our last non-JoJo episode for a while (?) we talk about three more episodes of China's To Be Hero X, episodes 7-9. We're wrapping up the E-Soul arc and starting the Lucky Cyan one. We also talk about St. Patrick's Day, the Oscar winners, Frankie Valli, skating in church, and what a horse is. |
We return to China this week, to check out 3 more episodes of dònghuà To Be Hero X. We also talk about similar works like The Ice Storm and Grizzly Man. |
Returning to a recent fav, the gang checks out more of Ghost in the Shell Standalone Complex (episodes 7-9). Unfortunately the "complex" episode here doesn't offer much in terms of the bigger plot! We also talk about "U Talkin U2 to Me", lying about your height on dating apps, FARC, cryogenic tanks leaking, the surveillance state, and 5 Second Films. |
In a rare Jackie-free episode, Myles and Marc talk about the dazzling 90s anime treasure, Macross Plus. Is it as great as we all (ha) remember? Find out by listening. We also talk about terrible mash-up music, touching the thermostat, what a rogue MALE AI pop star would do, and freckles. |
Skip to 14:51 for actual GITS 2 INNOCENCE talk
The film streak continues as this week we check out Innocence, the ("underrated?"/"weird"/"heady") sequel to one of the anime GOATs, Ghost in the Shell. Are we smart enough for this film? (No) We also talk about Abel Ferrara, Silent Hill, feminist writer Donna Haraway, and Mr. Meeseeks. |
It's time to refill your popcorn buckets, 'cause we're going to the movies for the second week in a row - this time, we're talking about The Girl Who Leapt Through Time. We also talk about the Superbowl, The Prestige, Irreversible, kors k, and if we'll all ever stop being cringe. |
God, isn't it so satisfying to finish something? Films are better than TV that way. ...and we've also managed to finish Satoshi Kon's film catalog this week, since we finally cover Paprika. Is it all it's cracked up to be? Did Christopher Nolan rip it off? Does it have the worst English-language tagline for an anime of all time? Listen and find out. We also talk about The Sandman, Inception, vocaloids, sleep demons, and the common types of dreams. |
[Skip to 9:22 for To Be Hero X talk]
We checked out our first donghua, or Chinese anime, this week: To Be Hero X, thanks to a Patreon supporter. We even watched it in Mandarin! Did we like it as much as Japanese stuff? Listen and find out. We also talk about gout, Mozart's age, family stand-ins, and the languages our grandparents spoke. |
[Skip to 13:15 for Millennium Actress talk]
Well, I thought this was the last Satoshi Kon we would cover on the pod but apparently we've never done Paprika either? Yahoo, more Kon to look forward to. Anyway this is the first time any of us have seen Millennium Actress, and it turns out Satoshi Kon doesn't really have any misses. You can hear us talk about his overall catalogue toward the end of the episode. We also talk about Gmail's AI, Unit 731, and the Liancourt rocks. |
