Ms. Amanda has spent more than a decade moving between often-siloed sexual worlds. In this interview, she takes us behind the scenes of her long-term marriage, her foray into the swinger lifestyle, how that evolved into porn and legal sex work at the Love Ranch, and the realities of working within Nevada’s regulated brothel system. We talk about how she turned pleasure into a business with Kasbh Inc. and her other sexual endeavors, the care work at the heart of sex work, and how she defines her own boundaries after years in the industry.

For the 244th episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes journalist and author Ruth Whippman.
Ruth is the author of BoyMom: Reimagining Boyhood in the Age of Impossible Masculinity, a blend of memoir and reporting that asks a question many parents—people in general—are wrestling with: how do we raise good men in a culture that makes that incredibly difficult? In this conversation, Ruth reflects on becoming the mother of three boys in the middle of the #MeToo reckoning, how that moment collided with her lifelong feminist instincts, and what research actually tells us about boys’ emotional vulnerability. We dig into why patriarchy harms boys too, how emotional suppression fuels loneliness and radicalization, what’s really going on with the incel movement, and why boys may need more tenderness, not less. Ruth also shares a big tip for parents and what gives her hope about the next generation of boys—and yes, there is some hope at the end of this rainbow.
This episode is for anyone trying to make sense of masculinity in a very confusing moment.

For the 243rd episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes author and senior sexpert Joan Price.
At 82 years old, Joan has been writing and talking about sex and aging for decades, and she's still leading the conversation on why pleasure has no expiration date. In honor of the relaunch of her groundbreaking book Naked at Our Age on its 15th anniversary, Joan reflects on falling deeply in love at 57, navigating losing her husband to cancer, returning to sex after that devastating experience, what it’s like dating later in life, sex and dementia, erotic massage, and her tips for "seniors in training." This episode is a powerful reminder that pleasure, love, and curiosity are lifelong birthrights—and that it’s never too late to go after what you want.

For the 242nd episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes author, baker, and reproductive rights advocate Becca Rea-Tucker.
Fresh off the release of her new book, The Abortion Companion, Becca shares her own abortion story, her work in reproductive justice, and her experience becoming a mother in post-Roe Texas. Becca and Courtney unpack abortion stigma, the myth that abortion and motherhood are opposing identities, why Becca prefers the term pro-abortion over pro-choice, and why later abortion is so often misunderstood. We also explore the realities of accessing abortion care amid the hostile political landscape and the dangers abortion bans pose to all pregnant people.

For the 238th episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes adoptive mother and writer Marjie Alonso.
In this interview, Marjie unpacks what ethical adoption actually looks like—and why the familiar “better life” narrative so often obscures power imbalances, secrecy, and profound loss. Drawing from her experience adopting two sons from Paraguay and later taking them back to meet their birth mothers, she explains the concept of the primal wound, how adoption can impact adoptees (and everyone involved) across a lifetime, and why infertility or loss is not, on its own, a reason to adopt. We dig into the hidden economics of adoption, the business of family-making, and how a system built around demand can slide into coercion and trafficking.
Marjie also speaks candidly about reckoning with her own choices, what she wishes she had understood earlier, and why flipping the script—from “adults who want children” to “children who need families”—is essential to imagining a more ethical future for adoption.

For the 237th episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes economist, Wharton professor, and Having It All author Corinne Low.
In this interview, Corinne breaks down the myth of “having it all” and opens up about her own midlife crisis, the impossible pressures on modern women, and how inequality inside heterosexual households can quietly erode intimacy, attraction, and desire. We also dig into the data behind gender roles, invisible labor, motherhood timing, and why so many women feel “the squeeze” as they try to balance career, caregiving, and partnership in 2025.
Corinne also speaks candidly about becoming a mom again at 41, remarrying a woman after divorce, and why understanding the math of your relationship may be the key to having it almost.

For the 236th episode of Private Parts Unknown, host Courtney Kocak welcomes Paris-based journalist Monique El-Faizy to unpack France's Gisèle Pelicot case.
This French legal battle, which culminated in a landmark verdict last December, exposed a horrifying conspiracy to rape involving dozens of men—led by Pelicot’s own husband.
To break it all down, I’m joined by Monique El-Faizy, who has been closely following the case and is writing a book about it. We discuss the disturbing details, Pelicot’s incredible bravery in waiving her anonymity and making the case public, and what this case reveals about the insidious nature of misogyny and the banality of sexual assault.
We also talk about the parallels in Monique's previous book, All the President's Women: Donald Trump and the Making of a Predator.
But don’t worry—we end on a lighter note, with Monique sharing her experiences with dating and non-monogamy in Paris in her 50s.
Read my HuffPost Personal essay inspired by the case here.
