Thrift stores, with their eclectic mix of discarded items, are often considered a treasure trove for bargain hunters, but they can also be home to objects with eerie histories. Many believe that certain things found in thrift stores, particularly antiques or personal belongings, may harbor unsettling energy or even be haunted. Old furniture, for example, has long been associated with ghostly activity, as these objects have absorbed the lives and emotions of their previous owners. An antique rocking chair, worn and creaky, may seem harmless at first, but its age and worn upholstery might carry with it the residual memories of past generations. Stories abound of people purchasing vintage items like mirrors or paintings, only to experience strange occurrences at home—whispering sounds, cold drafts, or fleeting glimpses of figures in the reflection. Mirrors are especially potent in folklore, as they are believed to be portals between worlds, and when found in a secondhand store, they often carry with them a sense of unease, as if they might reveal more than just a reflection.

Old clothing, too, can be an unsettling item to find at a thrift store. In Mathews County of Virginia, off the coast of Gloucester, is the small, unassuming town of Diggs. It’s a cozy little place, surrounded by the Chesapeake Bay, offering coastal views and respite. It seems normal, boring in fact. But don’t let the views fool you!  For if you travel down the Beach Haven Road just outside of town, you come to a 50-acre patch of dense woodland. The Old House Woods is so full of paranormal activity and apparitions that it may be the most haunted woods in America. Where else can you find ghost pirates searching for their lost gold?  British Redcoats stalking the night?  Armored skeletons asking for directions and even…headless ghost cows?

The Old House Woods was a scary place when the colonists came to this country. The dense woods along the ocean were so thick the sky couldn’t be seen through the tree limbs. It was the perfect port for men to hide and lay low from the law. Thieves and pirates were so notorious in the area that travelers were warned to stay away from the woods. The woods were used as a secret port by both Revolutionary sailors and Civil War ones.

The woods were filled with stories of thievery and murder before the first incident even occurred.  The name Old House Woods actually reflected the fact that in the late 1700s an old colonial building stood in the middle of the woods. It was abandoned and believed to be full of angry spirits. The house, called the Frannie Knight house, spontaneously caught on fire.  Then, it to put itself back out with no intervention. Years later, the same house caught fire again.  But, this time it allowed itself to reduce the house to dust. The forest has since taken the house’s remains back.

The Legend of the flying dog, know as Aralez.

The aralez are most prominently associated with the story of the legendary Armenian king Ara the Handsome. According to this legend, the Assyrian queen Semiramis (Shamiram) called on the aralez to lick the wounds of and revive Ara the Handsome after he was killed in battle. By popular interpretation, this was the origin of the word aralez, from the name "Ara" and lez, the root of the word lizel 'to lick'. According to the Armenian history attributed to Faustus of Byzantium, after Mushegh Mamikonian was killed, his relatives placed his corpse on a tower, hoping that the aralezes would revive him.This indicates that belief in the aralez was still current in fourth- and fifth-century Armenia, following the Christianization of the country.

the Sachs Covered Bridge Gettysburg

Built in 1852 by David S. Stoner, the Sachs Covered Bridge extends 100 feet and serves to connect land separated by Gettysburg’s Marsh Creek. For more than a century it allowed vehicles and pedestrians access in their travels.

However, due to weakening abutments over the decades, this beautiful historic landmark was closed to all automobiles by 1968. Almost 30 years later, flooding caused the bridge to be shaken from its foundation, requiring over half a million dollars to fully restore it with steel support beams.

While certainly more structurally sound than ever, it is today open only to foot traffic. Throughout the years, township officials considered reopening the bridge for vehicular use. But each time, the bridge’s preservation outweighed any change in operation.

When the Battle of Gettysburg broke out in July of 1863, the town of Gettysburg was turned upside down by the brutality that permeated the land. Since a vast majority of Union and Confederate soldiers were young men, there were instances that saw some of them attempt to abandon their posts and go into hiding.

One such occasion involved three Confederate troops who tried to evade the war by donning Union attire. Marching with the North near Sachs Covered Bridge, they were soon discovered as belonging to the South and were promptly made an example.

It’s argued as to whether they were spies, deserters, or outright traitors. Regardless, the three young men were hanged from the bridge’s wooden support beams, ensuring that any Confederates passing through would see the executed men, thereby serving as a warning.

 Sadly, this is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg when it comes to the harrowing accounts that took place during the infamous Battle of Gettysburg. As a part of the American Civil War, it saw tens of thousands of lives lost in the line of duty.

The prison has witnessed countless tragedies, from violent prisoner uprisings to harsh conditions, which have left lingering energy throughout its halls. Another notorious haunted location is the Franklin Castle in Cleveland, a massive Victorian mansion built in the 1800s. Andrews, who dedicated his life to creating the castle, is said to still haunt the property, along with the spirits of his family members. Visitors have reported hearing strange sounds coming from the castle, as well as seeing shadowy figures in the windows. In this episode we continue on with some bigfoot fun from last weeks episode. We talk about some stories we found and dive into bigfoots love of bunt cake. Its all in fun as we do love the big guy.

Bigfoot, the legendary cryptid, is usually depicted as a mysterious, elusive creature hiding in the forests, but there's definitely a humorous side to him too! Here are a few playful ideas about Bigfoot that bring out his funny side:

    The World's Shiest Superstar: Bigfoot could easily be the most famous creature no one has ever truly met. He's like the introvert of the cryptid world—always leaving blurry photos and questionable footprints but never sticking around for the autograph!

    Master of Hide-and-Seek: Bigfoot's entire existence could just be one long game of hide-and-seek. Imagine him seeing a group of campers approaching and thinking, "Oh no, they're coming! Time to blend into the trees and pretend I'm a log again." He might just be the champion of forest hide-and-seek, winning every time without even trying.

    Clumsy Fashion Icon: Bigfoot is often described as a big, hairy, oversized creature. What if he’s just trying to keep up with the latest trends? Imagine him walking into a forest and suddenly tripping over a rock in his oversized, shaggy outfit. "You’re supposed to be a creature of grace!" he'd mutter, adjusting his mossy beard.

    Giant Prankster: Maybe Bigfoot isn’t avoiding people so much as pulling pranks. He might leave a huge set of footprints, only to later walk in circles just to confuse the humans who try to follow him. Or, maybe he occasionally runs past a campsite just to hear the scream of a surprised camper before vanishing into the trees. "Classic Bigfoot," he thinks, chuckling to himself.

    Bigfoot’s Love for Nature’s Selfies: The myth of Bigfoot might just be the result of him loving selfies. Maybe he's just out there in the wild snapping photos of himself against a scenic backdrop. The blurry images? Probably just a case of him not quite getting the whole "focus the camera" thing. "I swear, this time it looked great!" he’d say after taking a blurry shot of himself in front of a waterfall.

    Bigfoot's Fitness Routine: Everyone talks about how Bigfoot must be some kind of super-athlete—running through the woods, avoiding human sight. But what if he’s just a really out-of-shape cryptid? "I’m just trying to get my 10,000 steps in!" he'd say, huffing and puffing through the trees after one of his short "sightings."

Bigfoot could easily be the most misunderstood creature in the cryptid world, just a big, goofy guy trying to live his life, avoiding paparazzi, and maybe playing a few pranks along the way.

Larry “Beans” Baxter has spent the last 20 years working in the military and law enforcement. Tim Shaw has been a life long researcher in the fields of the Paranormal and Metaphysical.  Growing up in Western New York State and having relatives in the Lily Dale Spiritualist Assembly ~ A Spiritualist Community ~ it was only natural for him to develop an interest in these mystical fields.  Having been brought up Roman Catholic and Spiritualist gave Tim great insights into the miraculous as well as the phenomena of the worlds around us.

As a Medium Tim has taken training through the National Spiritualist Association of Churches, The Omega Institute, The Priesthood of  Melchizadek, as well as under the tutorage of many influential instructors. As an energy healer he has received a certificate in ART (Advanced Reiki Training) Methodology and has achieved the Master/Teacher Level of Usui Reiki.  He possesses a certificate in Spiritualist Healing, as well as currently studying to be a Life Coach.  In related fields, Tim has also studied Modern Witchcraft, New Orleans Voodoo, and Appalachian Hoodoo.

Tim is also a successful author, lecturer, media personality, and photographer.  He has penned: "Ghosts of Buffalo, Mysteries, Murder, and Mayhem in the Nickel City," "The Dogma of...ME," "The C2D1 Haunting," and "Rev. Zombie's Book of Divination."  He has co-written "Haunted Rochester," and has contributed to Marla Brooks "Animal Spells and Magick," Dark Moon Press 's titles Lost Whispers, A Collective Allegory of Haunted America," and added photographs to DMP's "Haunted Prisons," and "Haunted Asylums."

Tim has been sought out to consult and appear in movies and television.  His credits include: Discovery Channel's "Ghost Lab," SyFy's "Ghost Hunters,' Spike's "Ghost Ops," and Destination America's "Paranormal Lockdown,".  On The Travel Channel's "America's Most Terrifying Places"" Tim talked about his experiences at the Haunted Hinsdale House.The next year Tim was featured on another episode of "Most Terrifying Places" where he spoke about his experiences at a house in Bergen, NY. Tim returned to the Bergen House on "A Haunting" seen on the Travel Channel. He has also appeared in Core Productions "John Zaffis, The World Within," Deftone Pictures "Ombis," "To Catch A Soul," "A Grim Becoming," Paranormal Western New York, WKBW's The NOW, Most Terrifying with Jason Hawes, and the documentary "The March Creek Tramp." He has also appeared on the Travel Channel's Hit Show "Portals to Hell (Season Two - Monte Vista Hotel)."  Tim was again featured on the Kreischer Mansion and Enchanted Church episodes (Season Three).

Most recently he has appeared on these network shows: "A Haunting: Return to the Bergen House," "The Adams Street Haunting" which is an episode on Steve Shippy's "Haunted Saginaw Series," and on Nick Groff's "Death Walker" series (Season Three and Upcoming Four).

As a radio and podcast host Tim has produced and participated in many projects such as CBS' "The Psychic's Next Door," "CURIOSITY RADIO," the Internet hit "Black Cat Lounge."

​In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Tim has brought back The Black Cat Lounge (Which was previously heard for 12 years) in a vodcast format to help lift the spirits of house bound paranormal fans.  The show is broadcast on Facebook LIVE every Tuesday at 7PM EST!

Recently Tim has been volunteering his skills as a Director, Floor Manager, and Camera Operator at Lockport Community TV.  He has also worked behind the camera for "Within These Walls" on the VIDI Space Network.
