Oklahoma Sooners podcasts from SoonerScoop.com
Oh man, Carey, Josh, Eddie and George get together to talk about everything they saw during OU's first spring football practice and they break down everything they saw. Tight ends, receivers, defensive line, offensive line, newcomers, coaches, people who got chewed out, people who looked good. It's just a cavalcade of observations from day one. And Carey has some opinions on the fascination with John Mateer's throwing motion. George has some ideas of his own. The take game is actually strong in this one as Carey kind of goes off on OU's decision to do what they're doing to the west side of the stadium. How do you see things? Women's hoops is getting ready for a Sweet 16 showdown and great news as Jen Rocha is returning to coaching for OU softball. Baseball gets set to take on Texas this week as a program at the top of the SEC following series wins against Texas A&M and LSU. What are Eddie's expectations for this weekend. All that and more in this week's edition of the Unofficial 40.

It's the start of the NCAA Tournament and time to give our official takes on how we feel about Porter Moser returning to Oklahoma and Roger Denny's decision to keep him. The women are dancing and they will be dancing late on Friday night. We're hoping the people show up for a 9pm tip-off. And it is spring break and there is no spring football, but next week, spring football returns. We talk a little bit about the position rooms heading into spring and some of the storylines that would make us believe that things are going to go well at certain positions. We take deep dives into the offensive line and receiving rooms as we try and remind ourselves of who is gone and where they went. Carey is ready to read some reports about Taylor Tatum's safety adventures at Michigan while Eddie volunteers to go to Las Vegas to cover the Dan Mullen/Jackson Arnold duo at UNLV. And how do you like your steaks?

We've been busy around the Scoop offices and that's the way we like it. OU spring football media day was on Monday and Carey is here with some of his impressions since Eddie and George have been burning up the YouTube channel. Got some leftover thoughts from all the guys as well, like what the offensive line could be with the current roster, how productive we think some of the new tight ends could be. Are we not talking enough about Trynae Washington at tight end? After Jim Nagy's comments on Owen Heinecke the other day, George has an update on where Heinecke is in terms of his next move. We've talked a lot about the future freaks weekend, but what about the aftermath? Where did the Sooners make up the most ground? And with what players? George and Carey delve into the decision that has to be made in regards to Porter Moser and we can't get enough of Jason Witten.

Spring is in full swing as baseball and softball are underway, but the Sooners are still producing plenty of football news as Deland McCullough has been tabbed to take over for DeMarco Murray as OU's newest running backs coach. We talk with Josh McCuistion about what that means for recruiting at the position and we get into the running back room in general. We take some time to look at some of the coaching moves during the offseason as a lot of big name offensive and defensive coordinators have landed at Power 4 schools with aspirations for the College Football Playoffs next season. Which ones could we see working out and which ones could we see being busts? Are Zane Rowe and OU on the outs? Josh is here to tell us more. And we talk some hoops as the men are on fire! There has been a lot of news floating around lately, so forgive some of us if we forgot it (used to be) is the biggest day of the year. National Signing Day! Actually no one remembered because most everyone signs in the early period and then you have the portal. But the Sooners do have a notable addition in LeBron Bauer to celebrate on national signing day. The Sooners are looking for a new cornerbacks coach after Jay Valai is headed to the NFL. What insight do we have on the hire? The Oklahoma Supreme Court also paves the way for the city of Norman to build OU's next arena off campus. We've got some hoops talk as well. We highlight Jennie Baranczyk's squad more than we get depressed about Porter's squad.

There has been a massive change at the top of OU athletics as we were introduced to Roger Denny yesterday alongside President Joe Harroz and Chair of Athletics, Randall Stephenson. How will this affect fundraising? NIL? Budgets? Facilities? We have a lot of questions. And are we ready to say that Joe Castiglione was pushed out as this new era of players making money begins? We've also got a show packed with OU hoops talk as Bob Przybylo joins the Unofficial 40 for the first time in a long time. He breaks down the situation with Porter Moser right now and what the hiring of Denny could mean for his future.

College football season is officially over now that Indiana has defeated Miami to win the National Championship. This is a good thing for everyone in college football right? So how did we get here? What did Indiana do that we can apply to the Sooners' roster? Indiana proved it's not just about who is spending the most money on players. It's about a whole lot more than just that. We dive into our thoughts on how they built this thing. And we ask ourselves how close OU is to mirroring some of their approach to being the best in the country. We take a look at the construction of OU's roster heading into the 2026 season and players from the portal who will make the biggest impact next season as we wait on spring football to get started. And what is going on with Porter Moser's squad? They look lifeless and lost. Have we made the decision already? Time to move on from the Moser era? George is on vacation this week. Josh is headed to vacation next week. But you'll always have Carey and Eddie. Especially since Eddie wasn't caught up in the PC North fraud going on in OKC. And Josh is so ready to visit the happiest place on earth next week. Orlando, Florida, and Disney's Magick Kingdom!

Carey and Eddie start off the pod by relaying their experience at OU basketball last night. IT WAS AWFUL! Now we're on to portal talk and evaluating OU's haul. Could OU have done better? Yes. But they don't have a $40 million roster to work with like some others. Nagy was in quick and now is out looking for a few needs at the right price. Also putting a wrap on all the talent the Sooners lost in the portal. With what the Sooners have now, what does the 2026 team look like. And when players get paid, there are consequences to be paid. Basically, if you aren't performing and if you aren't healthy, you aren't guaranteed anything in this climate. It's dog eat dog. We discuss. Jason Witten is the tight ends coach and George is going skiing for the first time. He has married into a skiing family. Don't get goaded into going down the black slopes George!
