Who is Jesus to you? Sermon Based on Mark 8-9

    Send us a text

What is your relationship with Jesus like? Are you at the beginning of your relationship and walking with Jesus, infatuated with everything Christian? Have you been walking with Jesus for a while and feel disappointed because your expectations have not been met? Or are you at the point, like the Apostle Paul, where you consider every single thing as a loss in comparison to the excellence of knowing Christ? Regardless of where you are in your relationship with Jesus and your journey in the Christian faith, rest assured that you’re not alone. Even the disciples of Jesus had their own ups and downs in their relationship with Him. Consider Peter, for example, from being bold enough to proclaim that Jesus is the Messiah when Jesus asked, "Who do you think that I am?" to literally attempting to rebuke Jesus and earning a rebuke in return when Jesus tells him to "Back off, Satan." in Mark 8

But the amazing thing about our Lord and Savior is that He does not leave us in tension and rebuke, just like we see with Peter when He tells them that some standing there in Mark chapter 8 will not taste death until they see the kingdom of heaven coming in power. Then, after six days, He takes Peter, John, and James up a mountain, where He pulls His humanity aside, and they are able to see Him as God. This is where He is transfigured before them, speaking with Elijah and Moses while the disciples are terrified, holding onto the ground. Then Peter, bold as ever, attempting to memorialize this very moment, tells Jesus that it’s good for them to stay there and that he will make three different tents: one for Elijah, one for Moses, and one for Jesus. But God covers everyone with a cloud and tells them to listen to Jesus. In this message, Pastor Slavic explores what it means to follow Jesus while dying to our own expectations and embracing Jesus for who He is: God incarnate, and not just a teacher or just a man.

The Fake Coronation For The Real King

    Send us a text

Ever felt the sting of disappointment? You're not alone. We're about to explore the twists and turns of unmet expectations and their far-reaching implications. We'll uncover how our desires, when not aligned with God's will, can lead to feelings of bitterness, sadness, and self-pity. Yet, there's a silver lining, a beautiful concept: hope deferred. When a longing is fulfilled, it breathes life into us and our surroundings, a testament to God's plan for our lives.

Shifting our attention to Jesus, we discuss how maintaining a clear vision of Him is crucial in navigating life's challenges. Through the enthralling narrative of His entry into Jerusalem, we glean lessons from the doubts of Judas and the devious plots of the chief priests. Are you, like Judas, straying from the narrow path Jesus has set? Or perhaps, like the chief priests, you're allowing worldly pursuits to overshadow His calling? Let's take a moment and realign ourselves, recognizing the importance of prioritizing Jesus and His mission over transient earthly pursuits.

In our exploration of Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, we confront the stark reality of the crowd's disappointment when Jesus, their hailed king, did not meet their expectations. Their confusion and frustration hold a mirror to us. How often have we used the gospel to fuel personal ambition, forgetting to submit to Jesus' authority? The call to surrender, to seek His kingdom first, resonates throughout this episode. So, let's heed this call to action, relinquishing any areas of our lives we've been withholding from God, and begin living in the light of eternity.
