After what felt like nearly a decade, Light The Fire finally joins me on Ian's Untitled Scene Show 🤘

Seth, Andrew, and Blake stop by for a long-overdue conversation that somehow manages to be equal parts Scene history lesson, therapy session, and fun hangout.

We dive into the band's evolution from the early days through lineup changes, the unexpected way Seth ended up stepping into the frontman role, and how what could have been a disaster actually became the version of Light The Fire fans know today. We also get into ‘Death Won't Be The End Of Me’ (Parts 1 and 2), its long journey through pandemic delays, independent releases, recording with Beau Burchell of Saosin, and how the entire album slowly transformed into something much bigger than originally planned.

We also talk about songwriting, blending melodic hardcore and metalcore influences, collaborating as a full unit, the emotional weight behind some of the material, and why some songs hit a little harder than others. We get into A World I Was Never A Part Of, and this is not your typical surface-level album chat. This record came from years of grinding, real-life experiences, and finally putting something out that’s completely his. No chasing trends, no playing the game. Just raw, honest music that clearly hit harder than even he expected.

Jack opens up about where that comes from, too. We talk about growing up, dealing with isolation and bullying, and how those experiences shaped both the sound and the message behind the album. There’s a lot here about mental health, self-destruction, and trying to figure yourself out when you didn’t even think you’d make it this far.

We also get into how the album actually came together, including the moment he realized he finally found the sound, plus some behind-the-scenes on specific tracks that you’ll definitely hear differently after this.

We also go into past bands, internet nonsense, and some real talk about how people interact with music and each other now.

This one’s been a long time coming 🤘

After 20 years, I finally sat down with Scott and Jay from one of my favorites, Sydney!

We get into everything. The full original lineup is somehow back together after all this time, what actually led to the band calling it quits back in 2009, and how much of it had to do with the Scene shifting versus label pressure and just straight up bad timing. There’s some real honesty about their second record not landing the way they wanted, and what it feels like to watch the sound you built your band on start getting passed by something heavier.

We also talk about the return, including the very “Sydney” move of coming back after two decades with a minute-and-a-half punk jam for no real reason at all… which, of course, has a deeper story behind it than you’d expect.

There’s a ton of Scene talk in here, too. Touring stories, how fast things changed in the mid-2000s, getting compared to bands they weren’t even trying to sound like, and what they were actually listening to when they wrote that first record. You may be surprised…

If you were there for this era, you’re going to feel this one. If you weren’t, this is one of those conversations that explains why it still matters. Funeral For A Friend is even mentioned!
