Carter Westfall is the CEO of Natural Selection and a snowboarder. He grew up in New Jersey and graduated Princeton before working in finance in New York. Meeting Travis Rice at the signing event at The Art Of Flight Premiere in New York set his life on a different path. Today he's wearing a lot of hats at Natural Selection and he heads up the small team that runs the whole thing. Stoked to get to sit with him at Revelstoke.

Paul Fidrych was the director of hardgoods product management for Burton during snowboarding’s golden era. Paul oversaw production of the Brushie trouts, Terje swords, and was a key player in the development of the Burton custom. And this year the Burton Custom turned 30 and the story behind its development highlights a commitment to progression, of materials, building techniques, art, and the culture of snowboarding. The custom was a catalyst for change and in no small way that change was driven by Paul’s engineering sensibility and his direct communication with some of the best snowboarders in the world at the time including people like Craig Kelly, Bryan Iguchi, Victoria Jealous, and Jason Brown. Paul was also a facilitator at Windell’s summer camp on Mount hood the year I went there 1991. Paul’s life in snowboarding has benefited us all and I’m excited to bring you this interview from his chalet in whistler.

Brad Heppner is a hometown hero snowboard photographer who's been snapping great shots since the golden age of snowboarding. Working with the Wildcats, Skids, and Partysnakes at Seymour got his foot in the door to shoot with some heavy hitters in the Whistler back country and all over the world. Brad's a great example of a snowboarder who's heart is all the way in it!

Paul Culling was a pro snowboarder in the late 80's and early 90's scoring sponsorship contracts with Gnu, Nitro, and K2 before starting his own snowboard brand, Luxury Snowboards. He was also the first pro on Westbeach outerwear. Paul's entrepreneurial spirit found an outlet in snowboarding first through an innovation for boots, eventually in running the world's first adult snowboard camps on Mt. Seymour, and ultimately through flying around the world with a team of Luxury pros that included Mike Estes and Shin Campos. Eventually Paul joined the "internet" sector of the money market and innovated there. I met him in the early 2000's when he integrating commerce into the Boardroom's website. He's a great part of the history of snowboarding and I'm proud to bring you this interview with Paul Culling

Shane McKinney created Invasion snowboards in the early 90's and kept the ship sailing for over ten years. During the course of Invasion Shane went from being a snowboarder with sponsors to a brand owner sponsoring some of the best north shore rippers around. Invasion was the first brand to gain a big community acceptance at Seymour, paving the way for Dinosaurs Will Die and other local brands to build a great following there. We recorded this episode at Shane's house in North Vancouver.

Smelly is the drummer in NOFX. He's been shaping surfboards for a while and within the last 6 years or so has started selling those surfboards to the public. That's how Carl from Upline Brewing got to know him and introduce him to me. Don Szabo's passing last week sucked. He was a pillar of joyous excitement in the action sports world. Don started his career as professional skateboarder and fell in love with snowboarding in Southern California. His pro model on Nectar snowboards out of San Diego was one of the very first pro models in snowboarding. His pro model on Lamar (all 4 of them) were among the best selling boards of the era. Double O Szabo were skits in the Creatures of Habit series of movies and are hilarious. Don's sense of humour shone through his public persona. When his wife and mother died Don was there to hold their hands and care for them. In the ten years since his wife died he travelled and mountain biked and cared for his two daughters, mostly with a smile on his face. His book, I Should Be Dead, came out this fall and you can buy a copy from his website www.donszabo.com

Chris Steeves was a North Van local and a pro snowboarder for Invasion Snowboards who had a factory there. As a part of the Invasion team Chris travelled filming and taking photos, two of which wound up as cover shots!! The cover of January 1999 Transworld Snowboarding was a Scott Serfas shot from Cypress Mountain (back when they attracted world class pros with their sky chair park builds!! nudge nudge...
