TRIGGER WARNING

There is one inevitability that we are will face. That is our death. No one can escape that fact that we will no longer exist at some point. We live and we must die. However, that doesn't mean we can't live our lives to our fullest potential before that day and be happy and healthy while doing so.

I want you to ponder on this fact throughout your day and week. If you found out tomorrow that it was going to be your last day - What would you do different? Would you love more? Make mends with those fractured relationships? The list goes on.

Whether tomorrow ends or not you should be living your life like there is no tomorrow.

Clark Pennington has dedicated his entire career to his passion for public service in the field of Law Enforcement and Education. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the First Responders Action Group (FRAG), a Veteran and first responder-focused nonprofit whose hallmark program, Veteran’s Justice Initiative, trains and works side-by-side with law enforcement agencies to recognize Veterans in crisis while avoiding the unnecessary criminalization of mental illness and substance abuse. FRAG is an initiative of The Verardo Group. Clark additionally is the Chief Operating Officer for The Independence Fund.

Clark previously served as the Chief of Police for the Matthews, NC Police Department after retiring from the Frederick, MD Police Department as the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division and SWAT Team. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from Mount Saint Mary’s University and a Master of Science Degree in Management, with a focus in Leadership Studies, from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to his employment with the Frederick Police Department, he served with the United States Army in the Military Police Corps for 6 years. He is a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigations National Academy, executive leadership program, Class #239, and PERFs Senior Management Institute for Policing, Class #79.

Stoicism - an ancient Greek school of philosophy founded at Athens by Zeno of Citium. The school taught that virtue, the highest good, is based on knowledge

Much of the teachings and literature on Stoicism is still very relevant in our modern world. I really liked the Roman Emperor / Stoic - Marcus Aurelius

Everyday I read a book by Ryan Holliday - The Daily Stoic. 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and The Art of Living. 

The following reading is from March 21st. 

"People seek retreats for themselves in the country, by the sea, or in the mountains. You are very much in the habit of yearning for those same things. But this is entirely the trait of a base person, when you can, at any moment, find such a retreat in yourself. For nowhere can you find a more peaceful and less busy retreat than in your own soul- especially if on close inspection it is filled with ease, which I say is nothing more that being well-ordered. Treat yourself often to this retreat and be renewed." - Marcus Aurelius, - Meditations, 4.3.1

Jon Macaskill, MMT, is a Navy SEAL Commander turned mindfulness and meditation teacher.  He is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and holds a Master’s degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School.

Jon has served in Iraq, Afghanistan, off the coast of Somalia, and in Panama.  He also runs a consulting business that brings mindfulness and meditation to high performing teams to aid in dealing with stress, anxiety, and depression, all while increasing focus, creativity, and productivity.

He also serves as the Deputy Executive Director for Veteran’s PATH, a non-profit organization that works to introduce meditation and mindfulness to veterans to bring them a sense of peace, acceptance, transformation, and honor.

I want you to think about how you hang out with. Who is your tribe? Your friends? Are they bringing you up or bringing you down. You are the average of the 5 people you associate with.

You need to be very careful who you let into your circle, because a lot of people want to see you fail. Remember the saying Misery Loves Company? Some people are just toxic and negative and you don't need that in your life.

You want people to tell you like it is with empathy and compassion because they love you. 

Do your People inventory today. Divide the list of people who are good for you and people who are bad for you. It's pretty simple. If one side outweighs the other then you know what to do. 

Go out and conquer your day.
