The ABCA Podcast runs the gamut of baseball coaching topics, from pitching, to hitting, to the mental game, practice planning, recruiting and more. It's hosted by Ryan Brownlee, longtime coach and current Assistant Executive Director of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The ABCA is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level, with more than 13,000 members representing all 50 U.S. states and 23 countries. Since 1945, Association membership has broadened to include: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, Junior College, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel Ball. Each January, the ABCA hosts the largest baseball convention in the world. Over 7,000 coaches attend the convention, which is held at various locations around the country.     Andy Wise - Head Coach, Corona HS

Wise has led Corona to a historic season winning the USA Baseball NHSI and going undefeated in league play for the first time in school history. Corona is ranked #1 in most high school polls. Wise started his playing career for ABCA Hall of Famer Don Sneddon at Santa Ana CC before heading to Long Beach State to play for another legend in Dave Snow. Wise pitched on the 1993 Long Beach State College World Series team. After a brief stint in professional baseball, Wise started his coaching career with another ABCA Hall of Famer Dave Demarest at La Quinta High School. Wise took over the Corona program in 2009 after starting the program at Segerstrom Fundamental in 2006.     Brent Hathaway - Head Coach, Missoula Mavericks

    This week on the ABCA Podcast is Missoula Mavericks head coach, Brent Hathaway. Hathaway is one of the winningest coaches at any level with over 1500 wins in 40 years of coaching. Hathaway played collegiately at Gonzaga and UTEP for college coaching legend, Jim Lawler. After college Hathaway went to work as a civil engineer before figuring out coaching and teaching was his passion. Hathaway spent 30 years teaching math at Hellgate Middle School and took over the Mavericks AA program in 1993. Hathaway is the longest tenured Legion coach in Montana.     Jeremy Booth - President, Program 15 Sports

Booth went on to play professionally until the age of 30. Booth was a long time scout for the Mariners, Brewers and Twins.     Perry Keith - Head Coach, Connors State College

    This week on the ABCA Podcast is Connors State head coach, Perry Keith. Keith has over 1700 wins in 36 seasons as head coach at Connors State. Keith currently ranks first in wins among active NJCAA baseball coaches and is believed to be the youngest collegiate baseball coach to reach the 1000-win plateau at the age of 42. Keith has guided the Cowboys to 18 Bi-State East Conference championships, eight Region II titles and six appearances at the Div. I JUCO World Series. Keith has coached 40 NJCAA All-Americans with over 120 players drafted and thirteen former players making it to the Major Leagues. The Cowboys are off to a hot start in 2024 with a 29-3 record and hitting close to .400 as a team.     Jose Vazquez - Head Coach, Alabama State University

    Next up on the ABCA Podcast is Alabama State head coach and this summer’s USA Collegiate Team manager, Jose Vazquez. Vazquez was hired as the head coach at Alabama State in the summer of 2016. In 8 seasons the Hornets have 6 SWAC East titles and won the SWAC championship in 2022. The 2023 squad posted a 41-18 record and a 26-4 conference mark. They were the NCAA Div. I leader in batting average at a .334 clip. Vazquez spent 14 years as an assistant at Alabama State and Bethune-Cookman and was honored with the ABCA Div. I Assistant Coach of the Year in 2013.     Dr. Ismael Gallo - Doctor of Physical Therapy, Baseball Flows

Dr. Gallo received his Bachelor of Science at Cal State Fullerton and Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Loma Linda University. Dr. Gallo has been an Orthopaedic Physical Resident in Orange, CA for the last 13 years. Dr. Gallo is a renowned expert in the field of baseball and softball training, dedicated to empowering players, coaches, and parents to take charge of their training.     Tim Pettorini - 2024 ABCA Hall of Fame, The College of Wooster

    This week on the ABCA Podcast is 2024 ABCA Hall of Fame class inductee former College of Wooster head coach, Tim Pettorini. In 38 seasons as the head baseball coach at The College of Wooster, Pettorini became one of the winningest NCAA Div. III coaches of all-time. From 1982 until his retirement in 2019, Pettorini led the Fighting Scots to a 1,243-461-6 (.727) record, ranking him seventh all-time in NCAA Div. III wins. Under Pettorini, the Fighting Scots won a league-leading 19 conference championships and made 26 NCAA tournament appearances, advancing to the NCAA Div. III World Series six times and finishing national runners-up in 1997 and 2009.To go along with his 14 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Coach of the Year honors, Pettorini is also a six-time ABCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year. A 44-year Lifetime Member of the ABCA, Pettorini coached 59 All-Americans during his tenure and his players received over 200 All-NCAC honors. Prior to taking over at Wooster in 1982, Pettorini taught and coached baseball at Fremont Ross High School in Fremont, Ohio. The ABCA Podcast is presented by Netting Pros.     Billy Roper - Head Coach, Adairsville High School

    We have another great minority spotlight ABCA Podcast this week with Adairsville High School head coach, Billy Roper. Roper has 29 years coaching baseball in the State of Georgia. Roper also spent 28 years coaching football and stopped this year to watch his son Chris play football at Dartmouth College. Roper played collegiately at Shorter College and upon graduation went right into coaching and teaching. Roper took over as head coach at his alma mater, Adairsville, in 2013 after spending 4 seasons as an assistant for the Tigers. Prior to joining the staff at Adairsville, Roper was the head coach at Newton High School in Covington for 8 years. Roper has a great story being one of the first people in his family to graduate from high school and college. In this episode we go in depth on what Coach Roper feels like sets Adairsville apart as a community and program.
