Bus Brings Banned Books To All

Books are magical. They tell us new stories. They teach us new things. They open our minds and hearts. Books bring people together. With books, we can learn from different people from different places!

But sometimes some people don't like the stories in some books. So they ban the books. That means no one can read them!

LGBTQ+ stories are banned in some places. This makes some kids feel sad.

RuPaul is a famous drag queen. His friends made the Rainbow Book Bus. It holds many banned books.

RuPaul helped the bus go to places where the books are banned. Everywhere it went, people came to get banned books for free. RuPaul helped his friends give away seven thousand books! These books help some kids feel less alone.

Screen Time Takes Talk Time from Young Kids

Do you love screen time? There are screens on computers, smartphones, tablets, and TVs… Maybe you watch videos! Maybe you play games! Screen time is fun!

But is it good for young kids? They don't know many words. Most kids need to learn how to talk. They learn how to talk from their families.

In Australia, scientists studied 220 families with a one-year-old kid. The parents recorded sounds around their kid. They recorded every six months.

Scientists found three-year-old kids had about three hours of screen time a day. When they had screen time, their parents didn't talk much with them. The kids also didn't talk much. When kids weren't using screens, the parents and kids talked more.

Saving Blue Crabs and Their Mangrove Forests

Women in one part of Ecuador love blue crabs. The crabs' top shell is blue. But their bottom shell is orange. Eight legs are red. Their claws are white! How colorful!

Emotions That Feel Bad Can Be Good

A Corpse Flower Blooms and Stinks

Kaohsiung Harbor Duck Race

Kaohsiung Harbor has many things to see. It has big ships! They carry many things to and from Taiwan. It has ferryboats! They take visitors around the harbor. And sometimes it has races!* *

Snow for Kids

Have you seen snow? Every year, in winter, many places around the world get cold. Some places get so cold, it doesn't rain. It snows. Cold white fluffy snow falls. It makes everything white!

Dancing with Frogs

Poison dart frogs have four toes on their feet. They can tap their long middle toes very fast. How fast? They can tap them about 500 times… in one minute!

箭毒蛙一隻腳有四個腳趾，牠們會用長的中間的腳趾快速敲擊地面，有多快呢?一分鐘可以敲500次。

Our eyes can't see their tapping toes! They're too fast! Watch out! These frogs are going to win all the tap dancing contests!

Scientists in three countries are studying why poison dart frogs tap their toes. Some scientists found that the frogs may tap dance to find food.

來自三個國家的科學家研究為什麼箭毒蛙要用腳趾敲擊地面，他們發現有可能是為了覓食。

What do these frogs eat? They eat moving insects. When these frogs tap dance, insects nearby move. When insects move, it's easier for the frogs to see… and catch them!

From Cow Poop to Clear Water

In India, many communities need to clean their dirty water. It's not easy. Many cleaning systems use chemicals and energy. They need workers.

印度有很多人需要淨化髒水，這個工作可不容易。汙水處理系統需要化學物質跟電力，也需要人手。

A man wanted to make a new system. But he didn't want his system to use chemicals, energy, or workers.

有一名男子想要研發新的系統，但是他不希望用到化學物質、能源跟人力。

The man had an idea. A cow's stomach has four parts. Each part has a special job. His system has four parts. Each part has a special job.

他想到讓系統跟牛的胃一樣，有四個部分而且每一個部分都有特殊功能。

Cow poop is in part one. Yes, smelly cow poop! This is smart. Brown water goes in. The poop's bacteria clean the water. Next, in part two, other bacteria clean it.

第一個部分要用到牛的糞便，因為裡面的細菌可以淨化水質。第二部分有其他的細菌來處理。

Then in part three, sand and small stones clean it. Last, in part four, plants clean the water! And clear water comes out!

第三部分需要沙子跟石頭，最後一個部分用植物來淨化水質，於是清水就出來了!

The man's cleaning system works! People can use this water for plants and toilets. More than three hundred communities use this system now. It has cleaned two billion liters of water. That's a lot of water!
