Three Things to Live Beyond Ourselves:

    3) Service

    Scriptures mentioned:

    Acts 2v42

A.J. Swoboda is back on the show today! A.J. and Brook sit down to talk and laugh about deep thoughts that are vulnerable and real. Their conversation gets into desires and how critical it is to live in a place of satisfaction in Christ. In this topic of desires, the conversation covers so many facets, from unwanted desires, practical desires, the balance of naming our desires and knowing when to die to them, how we bless our children, how we can learn from those closest to us to be transformed, and how we need to see Jesus in his humanity to relate to God. Parenting Through Emotions, Navigating the "I Feel, Therefore I Am Culture" and The Power of Emotions as God-Given Tools

Dallas Willard said it so well when he said, “Feelings are good servants, but they are disastrous masters.” We live in the “I feel, therefore I am” culture and no longer live in truth. In today’s show, we discuss how our emotions are tools given to us by God. God values emotions and feelings, but we must have them in the right order. We discuss how parenting is a space where emotions come up often, not just for our kids but for us as parents. We go over six big emotions that arise within us and our children, and then we explore different ways to relate to these emotions. Enjoy!

    6 Big emotions:

    1) Jealousy

    2) Fear

    3) Anger

    4) Grief

    5) Guilt

    6) Anxiety

4 Things we all need as humans:

    1) Focused attention

    2) Acceptance

    3) Guidance

    4) Protection

Honoring Your Capacity, Insecurities, Complaining in Parenting and Four Key Questions to Embrace Your Calling and Capacity

Today’s show explores the question, What is God’s Heart with our capacity? Just because we are capable of something doesn’t mean we have the capacity for it. The questions we discuss in today’s show will challenge you in self-awareness to help you discover your gifts, your capacity in them, and the season in which God is asking you to use them. We dive deeper into more areas around this topic, like our insecurities, how our community can help us discover our calling, and most importantly, how our calling is not about us. Enjoy!

    4 Questions to ask yourself:
    1) Am I striving?
    2) Am I living in fear?
    3) Am I accepting my limitations and my family’s limitations?
    4) Is it Obedience?

Breaking Generational Patterns, Safety in Parenthood, Transforming Parenting Trauma + Raising Secure Children (Interview with Michael Handler)

We have Michael Handler, the Chief Innovation Officer at Awana, on today's show. Brook and Michael talked about becoming emotionally healthy and safe parents when this was not the model they grew up knowing. Michael reminds us that Christ is in the business of redeeming our stories and how God often uses our children in this formation process. In this conversation, you will hear about how multigenerational churches are a gift, how it's essential, to be honest about your story while honoring your parents, how our children can be a mirror to help us gain understanding, how hurt can become our identity, how we can give our children safety even if we never experienced it and how when we bring our children safety God can use it to provide us with the safety we may not have received. Enjoy!

    The Intentional Motherhood Retreat 2024

How long has it been since someone- anyone- poured into you?

In 2023, over 600 mothers gathered together to learn, to worship, to grow, to encourage, and to be encouraged. We are still in awe of what God did!

The Spirit moved, the Father spoke, and Jesus healed. It was so incredible that we can’t wait to do it again!

We want to invite you to join us October 3rd - 5th, 2024, for a three-day retreat designed to pour into you.

We know the task of motherhood is both beautiful and hard, life giving and exhausting, and we want to create a space for the Spirit to refresh you on your journey.

We will press into how motherhood gently leads us to spiritual formation, how relationships are essential for the journey, and how our connection with God spills over to our connection with our families.

Come to where we live, in Bend, Oregon… a place of startling beauty, a place to come away from it all.

Come with your best friend, your sister, your mom— come together, or come alone.

This is a retreat for any stage of motherhood you find yourself in… from mothers of infants to grandmothers and women who hope to be mothers someday. There will be something for all of you! We all need each other!

We truly believe that the greatest gift you can give your children, young and old, is your transforming self.

It was Dallas Willard who said, “If you don’t come apart for a while, you’ll come apart after a while.”

So come! Come apart for a while with us. Come, planning to be surprised by God, to find in Him the delight your soul craves.
