Career criminal Carlito Brigante is released from prison, free at last, and with big plans to go straight. But the ghosts of Carlito’s past threaten to derail his dreams as he gets dragged down by the thugs, pimps and pushers of 70s New York.

 

Carlito’s Way reteamed De Palma and Pacino, together again 10 years after making Scarface. But Carlito showed a different side to the explosion duo. It didn’t set the cinematic world on fire in the 90s, but has slowly gained a die-hard fan base, with a strong argument for it being De Palma’s finest work.

Having foiled a lunatic bad guy in an LA high rise, officer Jack Travern is once again face to face with bomb nut Howard Payne. But this time there’s a bomb on a bus, if it goes below 50 mph, it goes up in flames, and Jack is the only one who can save the day.

 

Cinematographer turned first time director Jan De Bont brought his A-game to Speed. A white-knuckle workout in the mould of Die Hard with a simple concept and a great cast, which sped all the way to the top of the box office.

 

All the right movies are staying above 50, held hostage at the whim of a madman.
