This is our full breakdown of every classic Dominic Toretto driven '68-'70 Charger from the Fast and Furious movie franchise, from the beginning in 2001 to current day (April 2024 as of this recording).

As you know, the series that started in 2001 with a bunch of VCR thief stealing family members has become a 20+ year action franchise. Dominic Toretto (as portrayed by Vin Diesel) has been the lead character nearly everyone one of them, and Dom has a thing for MOPARS. Beyond that though, he has a SERIOUS thing for '68-'70 Chargers (with the '70 being the primary).

We don't claim to be as solid with the F&F franchise as we are the Dukes of Hazzard, but we did our best. At worst we spend an absolutely ridiculous amount of time discussing ridiculous franchise doing ridiculous things with flying Dodge Charger. Basically, it was perfect for us.

Two mismatched buddy cops, who work for their TLC line quoting Captain (Michael Keaton) take down a ponzie scheme the likes we haven’t seen since Bernie Madoff. Will Ferrell plays an accountant - but a former college pimp. Mark Walberg might be playing himself from the Departed - but as a spoof and a ballet dancer.  In the process the movie takes every stereotype of every buddy cop movie - funny or serious - and makes fun of it all, including the two most macho of detectives (Samuel L. Jackson and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson). But of course we’re all here for the cars, and in this case the hero car that is the biggest punchline of all; a 2006 Toyota Prius. It saves the day, survives a hobo attack, and drifts through NYC all set to a killer soundtrack and subtle humor that’ll make you cry. 10 Cony Island Hot Dogs!

Also noted in this episode, no-one suffered from food poisoning and was stricken with vomiting and diarrhea for 4 hours straight.

This is the comedic story of the smart underachieving lawyer, his wicked-smart girlfriend, and his dippy younger cousin. It's the take of New Yorkers that magically drive rust free 30-year old cars from state to state, looking for adventure and bringing justice to the masses.  all drive 30 year old rust free cars from New York, cross country, and make justice possible for the masses. Did I mention that the cousin is Karate Kid himself, Joe Maccio? And even better, this whole comedic genius movie is centered around the reality of the fact that a locking rear end is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than a one wheel wonder, but only if your smoke-show girlfriend teaches you that first. This one got Marisa Tomei an OSCAR and taught us all that no self respecting southerner eats instant grits. It may be Joe Pesci's most likable character role ever and we'll never get sick of listening to Marisa Tomei explain torque wrenches, posi-traction, and the stock ignition timing of a 327 Chevy.

K&F Show Summary:

January 2024 marks the 45th anniversary of the Dukes of Hazzard. "One Armed Bandits" is the first episode that started it all, and one of the 5 filmed on location in Georgia before it would be relocated to California for the remainder of the series. For purists, the first 5 episodes (and this in particular) is as good, gritty, and as pure as it gets. For me... it's just that weird one they would show in re-runs that was so different than all of the "real" ones from the later seasons I was used to. (I like campy Hollywood-ized versions of stuff.)

Anyway, this is the episode where Bo and Luke play Robin Hood - and commit a criminal act against a criminal (Boss Hogg) - to give to the poor. This proves the statement that two wrongs can make a right, apparently. Bo and Luke meet with Cooter in the Starsky and Hutch Torino along with Blake Lively’s dad, burglarize a truck filled with slot machines, place them around town, give the proceeds to the poor, and give the credit to Rosco, helping him get re-elected. Most of the scenes from the opening credit for the run of the show come from this episode and we get to settle once and for all which General Lee of the 3 used in this episode….really came first.

This is the Dukes of Hazzard episode that shows in America, democracy still works.. until the next episode when democracy will be forgotten, because in Season 2 long-lasting consequences only last exactly one episode. Smoke-show married mom "TC Rodgers" returns to Hazzard to run for county supervisor, a job held by Boss Hogg that has a number of privileges, including being the probation officer for Bo and Luke Duke. Bo and Luke help the smoke-show mom because 1) it’s the right thing to do, 2) they think she’s a smoke show, and 3) they do not know she’s a married mom. In helping her win an election they also commit several FCC violations and perform electronic miracles by communicating via CB radio to people on telephones! And you know in the Blue Brothers with they put a loudspeaker on the Bluesmobile?  Well that bit came from this episode too. Anyway, the Smokeshow wins the election, her husband and kid show up, and in a week we’ll never hear from her again….just like the Iowa caucus as of today. See you in 4 years, losers.

K&F Show Summary: We are back for 2024! Unfortunately, the first show of the year for us will kick off with a memorial tribute to the late great Cale Yarborough. Cale passed away on Dec 31, 2023. He was an ironman in NASCAR certainly, but many of us met him initially due to his guest starring roles during Season 2 and Season 7 of the Dukes of Hazzard.

Instead of re-reviewing both of these episodes we decided to dedicate this episode to telling the life story of Cale himself. (Full links to both of his episodes are below, and we encourage you to listen to them as well.)

There  will be facts here that some of you may know, but many of us didn’t. He was the first ever three-in-a-row NASCAR champion, a record only met (and then broken) by Jimmie Johnson. He won four Daytona 500’s, inclyding two back to back in 1983 and 1984. He pioneered CBS-TV’s use of the John Porter-Peter Larson in-car camera that could tilt and pan, footage of which was used in the Season 7 episode he appeared on during the Dukes.

He won the 1983 Daytona 500 in a backup car from a Hardees fast-good restaurant….after flipping his new-for-1983 Monte Carlo in qualifying at 204MPH. He taught himself how to fly an airplane. Possibly most famously, during the first ever flag-to-flag showing of the Daytona 500 on TV, he and the Bobby Allison got in a terrible fight after Cale and Donnie Allison (Bobby’s brother) wrecked for the win on the last lap.

RIP Cale.
