One of our guilty pleasures is doing an upcoming movie review with our good buddies Dan and Chris. But let’s be truthful, Marty needs others on the show that can be insightful on movies because without them, it would just be me listening to him talk about movies.
And when all the banter is done, we then do the draft of which ones we think will make the most at the box office. I you have the time, we would love to hear your thoughts over on the Discord channel.
Thanks for listening and back to games in the next episode.

Welcome back to the normal show. We hope you had a chance to listen to our favorites from 2023. When reviewing games or giving our opinion, we try and consider the game’s target audience and how well it achieves its goals, whether it’s strategy, family-friendliness, or replayability. Our perspective on the game’s complexity, duration, and enjoyment level hopefully provides insights for potential players. And by including comparisons to similar games can help readers gauge their interest based on previous experiences. If anything, we hope to help you make an informed decision about adding the game to your collection.
Thanks for listening and we are always happy to hear any feedback you have.

Marty recently attended the Star Wars Unlimited event in Minnesota, and he graciously shared his experience with me and all you listeners. Over the years, we’ve delved into numerous Trading Card Games (TCGs), always hoping to find one that captures our excitement like Android Netrunner did. Remember, Netrunner was the TCG that kickstarted this show because we couldn’t contain our enthusiasm for its brilliance. Now, the question looms: Can Star Wars fill the void that Netrunner left behind? Will it rekindle our weekly lunchtime gaming sessions? One thing’s certain—you’ll be hearing plenty about it from us in the coming months, as our orders are already in.
And speaking of surprises, let me confess: Roll Player didn’t immediately grab me when I first played it years ago. But over time, it’s grown on me. My interest in Thunderworks Games led me to eagerly anticipate Stonespine Architects. Did it live up to expectations? You’ll have to listen to find out.
But wait, there’s more! Our unexpected delight came from Tanuki. It’s a classic case of “don’t judge a book by its cover.” This little gem might just become our go-to filler game for a while.
Lastly, Total Domination gets a turn on our gaming table. We’re eager to explore its depths, although we’ll also share any minor quibbles during our play discussion.
Thanks for listening, we really appreciate it.

Lots of games to discuss, but what do you expect after another convention. Yes, we might be biased because it is in our backyard, but if you are looking for a convention to go to next year, consider Tantrum Con. It is incredibly well run by some of the nicest people you will ever meet. There was something always going on with plenty of space for open gaming.
The annual award show is just a month away, so be sure to get in your votes for the All Y’all Award. We will shut down the form on 2/17 so we have time to tabulate the votes and get the nominees over to the presenter. Thanks for taking the time to do it.

If winter blues have you down this year, then go ahead and block your calendar for Dice & Diversions in Atlanta next year when the dates get announced. A new board game convention that is definitely something to consider. We had a fabulous time.
We got to play some of the hottest games out on the market: Plum Island Horror, Forest Shuffle, and Apiary. We are killing horrors, we are growing trees, and we are making our subjects explore and get resources. Respectively, we have a cooperative game, a set collection game, and a worker placement game. I can understand why these games are getting some attention because while all the core mechanics aren’t new, how they use them are.
I will say that in Apiary, you are not using the bee’s tongues to suck up the nectar and store it in a special stomach called the honey stomach. Nor are you having the nectar mixed with enzymes that break down the complex sugars into simpler ones. Nor are you having your bees regurgitate the nectar into honeycomb cells, where they fan it with their wings to evaporate the excess water. Instead, they are exploring planets, collecting resources and then exchanging them for honey. But wouldn’t it be cool to have them do the above!!
Lunar is a trick-taking game that will challenge your group of four. We do not recommend playing it with two even though it is possible. The next Unmatched has some really interesting characters, some that if you had sworn off of getting any more expansions, might want to take a look.
Finally, Pyramidice is a comfortable dice game that with the God cards makes it an interesting engine builder with a push your luck mechanic.
Thanks for listening and in the next show, we might get back to our silliness of long banter and short board game discussions.

Welcome to 2024 and the 12th year of RDTN. Thanks for the continued support. We do appreciate and hopefully we can still provide you relevant information and informative reviews. Or we can just by white noise in your life for an hour or two every other week.
Don’t be surprised by hearing from the Connell clan in this episode. Marty had a captured audience over the holidays, so it was a good chance for him to get in some plays in with the family and hear their thoughts. And to be honest, when it comes to the miniature games, the Connell boys know their stuff.
The United Kingdom has had 53 Prime Ministers so far. The first Prime Minister of Great Britain was Robert Walpole, who led the government for over 20 years from 1721. Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister during World War II. Margaret Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Rishi Sunak is the current Prime Minister and the first non-white Prime Minister
It’s fascinating to see how the role of Prime Minister has evolved over time and how each Prime Minister has left their mark on the country. But none can compare to our reigns, if given the chance, as we once again talk about our play of the game. We are only beginning to get into the strategy. In 2024, I hope we continue to bring more on that game like we did Netrunner when the podcast first started out in 2012.
Thanks for coming back and listening to us once again.

We have a new year ahead of us and we are looking forward to what is to come in Season 12 of RDTN. Thanks to all that have been with us over the years. But before we got out of 2023, we played some amazing games and one, Prime Minister from GMT, has us talking about it whenever we are together.
Got a gem to the table in a small card game that came out in 2019 and that is Ghosts of Christmas. Enjoyed the twist on how the high card below trump can change as the hand is played out. And any card game with you must make your bid is always one that I can appreciate.
Sankore from Osprey games was another big game that we got on the table. Now the biggest drawback for us was setup, but the game was probably one of those that needs many, many plays to appreciate the complexity of how to get the best score. The mechanics are straight forward, so the teach wasn’t’ bad, but how to score at the end caught us off guard. Looking forward to getting it to the table again.
Happy New Year and thanks for coming back.
