Here’s a tour of my full size chicken coop and all the eggs I get.

If you’re thinking about chickens, you have to think about the hen house. The two go hand in hand. A good hen house is so critical to your success that it means tons of delicious eggs or frustration and failure.

This is my simple design that works so so well in keeping my hens and myself happy. It can easily be modified slightly to accommodate any climate. It is so simple to build that even a first time builder can do it.

If you want to be successful with keeping some backyard chickens then put a lot of time and thought into your chicken coop, think about size, location and how weather proof you will need it for your area. Always build it strong and sturdy and make it predator proof. You don't want to ever worry about something getting in the coop and killing your chickens. Believe me you get attached to your chickens and want to make sure they stay safe at night or while you’re at work. When do chickens start laying eggs?

When do chickens start laying eggs? Lots and lots of people ask me this question. It seems like a mystery because you get so many different answers from everyone. My hens started laying at 4 months, my hens started at 6 months. Then I get, “My hens are 8 months and still no eggs, is something wrong?" The answer is no, probably not. Different breeds can start at different ages. What do baby chicks eat?

What do baby chicks eat? Tiny chicks start out eating little tiny specks of food. Stores sell something called chick starter. I always get unmedicated. If the pieces look too big, I will crush them up a bit. 3 Tips For Living Off The Grid

Living off the grid is possible. My cabin has off grid water and sewer. As soon as I get some solar panels I'll have a completely off grid cabin. Before you buy land check and see if they require you to hook up to city water and sewer, you'd be surprised how many "rural" properties that are way out in the country require city water and sewer. When you have your own septic system you are responsible for maintaining it, you have to take good care of it and be careful about what you put down the drain. When you have your own private well for water, you need to get the water tested and if the pump breaks you are responsible for getting it fixed.

The 3 Best Egg Laying Chickens

Buff Orpingtons are a great chicken breed. There is nothing like a big poofy gold hen. Buff Orpington hens tend to be broody, so if your looking to raise some chicks the natural way, get a couple Buff Orpingtons.

    Barred Plymouth Rock

They are a Cold tolerant and dual purpose breed which is nice for some homesteads. A lot of people like to raise chickens for meat and eggs. The Barred Plymouth Rock can be used for both. They lay brown eggs

    The Black Australorp

I love these hens. They are so sweat. I have a soft spot for this breed because they are so gentle and nice. If your thinking of starting your first back yard coop and can't decide which hens to start with. Get Black Australorps. You will not be disappointed. They lay brown eggs.

Heritage chickens are an old fashion chicken. A non hybrid chicken. Another way of describing Heritage chickens is, they are a pure breed that has been around for a long time. Heirloom seeds, and Heritage chickens are the same thing in the sense that when you grow an heirloom seed you get the exact same thing as the mother plant that you got the seed from. When you breed two Heritage Buff Orpingtons, you will always get a Buff Orpington.

How I Got A Loan With No Credit History

Learn how to establish credit by calling a small loan company directly and building a relationship so they approve your loan. When you live a simple debt free life you don’t have a big credit history, in the eyes of the bank no credit is just as bad as bad credit. So if you want to get a loan I recommend contacting a small loan company and telling them about your situation. It worked for me and it can work for you.

5 Things I Wish I Knew About MULES

Here are 5 things I wish I knew about mules before I bought my first one. A mule might look like a horse but they're very different from a horse. They don't think like horses and that is what makes them very different. When you want to train a mule you don't want to do it the same way as a horse. I talk about feeding, mule saddles, training, and more so you and your mule can be happy.
